As we are eagerly waiting for the duo to deliver new material, or even better get out of their studio and go on tour we will have to settle with this little teaser by Thomas Bangalter. Ed Banger Records has teased this new track on their Instagram account. The track, ‘Riga (Take 5)’, is described as “14’14″of mental techno recorded in a single take”.

Titled “Riga (Take 5)”, the track was produced as part of the original soundtrack for the 2017 film Riga (Take 1). Clocking in at 14 minutes, the track eschews Daft Punk’s disco-oriented production style and compositional structure, opting instead for a menacing dose of driving techno. The track was also composed in a single take, adding an improvised feel to its pulsating low end and swirling percussion arrangements.

Earlier this year it was revealed that Bangalter has contributed another new track, ‘Sangria’, to the soundtrack to Gaspar Noé’s new film Climax, as well as previously released tracks ‘What To Do’ and Daft Punk’s ‘Rollin’ and Scratchin’’.

‘Riga (Take 5)’ appears on a limited edition one-sided blue vinyl 12″.

Keen to learn more then indulge yourself in this rare interview video with Daft Punk, back in the days 🙂

The 12-minute mini-documentary contains footage of the robots traveling through Paris and Tokyo, working in the studio and mucking around in the subway. More importantly, it also features an open discussion by the otherwise ultra-secretive duo about the ideas that went into the making of the record and their collaborative creative process.
