Fat Bustard – 12 channel mixing with attitude

Thermionic Culture unveils the Little Bustard, their second valve summing mixer which has been designed to complement the Fat Bustard valve summing mixer by increasing the number of inputs channels. The new 19″ 2u Little Bustard can also be used independently by itself as a stand alone mixer.

Features include 16 input channels arranged as 6x stereo pairs with fixed gain at unity level with on/off switches, 4x mono inputs with mute switches and pan pots which can be defeated by another switch adding an extra 6dB of gain. The master output section has independent left & right 31 position output indented pots with a gain range from –17dB to +2dB.

The valve stages use a pair of ECC83/12AX7 on the gain stage, and a pair of PC86’s for the output stage. The master section will also have a simple output level indicator. To create a monster-summing mixer, The Little Bustard’s outputs can be plugged into the Fat Bustard’s AUX inputs increasing the number of channels to 28.

Body language sound

March 27, 2009 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on Body language sound

Yet another weekend approaching fast :-)

On several blogs I have recently visited I have seen the question on how to create so called Body Language Sound which can be found e.g. with MANDY and similar artists – I am not sure I want to dig further in this, MANDY isn’t really my bag as frequent readers of my posts probably already have figured out, hehe

Anyhow I found this good tutorial on how to get to grips with BLS in Ableton. In this Ableton Live tutorial, DJ Gustavo Bravetti demonstrates how to create the sound of M.A.N.D.Y vs Booka Shade’s Body Language.

Spectrasonics have also added some new features to the software, which will make a big difference for the end users and, as such, a little more editing and testing time than originally expected is needed to complete the release.

It now has been confirmed that the official release date for Trilian will be *29th June 2009*.

For more information about Trilian please visit: http://www.timespace.com/trilian/

Review of PLP's latest EBM Industrial loop release

March 24, 2009 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on Review of PLP's latest EBM Industrial loop release

plp_industrial_ebm_demonic_240x240

PLP has been kind enough to send me one of their latest loop releases for review. It’s called Industrial EBM, which I thought was very appropriate considering what this blog is all about; electro, EBM, synth music type stuff.

And I must say that one of the hardest things to find in loop universe is good, fat EBM bass loops – it really seems like everyone keeps these to themselves. PLP has actually thrown in a couple of high class EBM loops that I wouldn’t mind using in my songs, but greedy as I am, I of course want more of the same :-)

Overall impression is that this loop library is a very good start for anyone who wants to dive deeper into the industrial/EBM scene; several nice intro sounds and drum samples are available. I am especially fond of those that give that metallic feeling to the beat; good metallic sounding beats are fairly hard to get by. They have also added an entire section of midi-files that might trigger your creativity, although they do not take you all the way, which is not the intention either of course.

Apart from wanting more bass loops (as I always do) I think this loop release is good value for money, but (there always has to be a but) I would down prioritize on the one shot drum samples for the next release, since the market is totally swamped by one shot drum sounds and special FX sounds and very easy to come by.

I am very much looking forward to the next release in this field there are too few and PLP has shown us the way.

Motor supports Depeche Mode

More on Motor >>

American/French electronic duo Motor have been hired as support act for 20 of the upcoming Depeche Mode shows in Europe.

Depeche Mode’s world tour, which runs from May 2009 through February 2010, will stop in more than 25 countries. The band will release their new album, Sounds of the Universe, in April.

Their remix of “Precious” was highly appreciated by Martin Gore and a Motor song was part of the pre-concert music during the last Depeche Mode tour.

– Well this time, instead of one track on a mixtape, we’re getting the real deal!, Motor’s Bryan Black says

Berlin label Shitkatapult will deliver the third Motor album late this summer, preceded by single “Death Rave”. Remixes for Acidkids and Kanye West are also to be expected.

Browse the On Record archives for our reviews of the first two Motor albums.

Ladytron are going to support Depeche Mode in Belgrad, Bukarest, Sofia und Zagreb.

A closer look on the JOMOX Sunsyn

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jj-hqEiIjX4]

Jomox Sunsyn, an analog machine made for sound designers. This is probably the most organic sounding newer synth, it can be raw, but also very smooth. It is not emulation of any historic synth and has own unique character. I can imagine that production of such quality instrument is just to expensive.
I would put it to top 5 of ever produced synths sonically. without effects it sound extremely rich, full and cutting through. Presets don’t represent capability of this beast.
