Contemporary synthpop?

I got a comment on my old blog about me being bored by 80s synthpop nostalgica:

Old post: I will never be 80’s synthpop nostalgic again – after this

DevotionRecords thought this might be more in line with what one should consume nowadays relative to synthpop:

Do you agree with DevotionRecords?

The Accelerator, looking pretty darn good to me

March 31, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on The Accelerator, looking pretty darn good to me

Subtractive synth with 3 OSCs and two External inputs, multimode filters, arpeggiator and much more.

The Accelerator features the first motion tilt controller in a full size keyboard.

The Accelerator is perfectly prepared for your Live performances. A lot of synthesizers nowadays do not offer direct patch selection anymore. Instead of using direct access push buttons you have to dial in the desired patch and press enter. The Accelerator makes sound selection instantly available at your fingertips with dedicated patch select buttons. Furthermore, the unique program chain feature allows for programming a chain of programs that selects the correct patch automatically for you.
Another stunning new feature is the the built in 3D sensor. Movements of the keyboard are converted into Modulation data. This brilliant addition allows for controlling parameters like pitch, the filter frequency or modulation depths by lifting up or shaking the keyboard.

Do you love step sequencers and arpeggiators? The Accelerator would not be a Radikal synthesizer if we did not integrate some sequencing goodies. You can enter some notes into the step sequencer, transpose the sequences with the left hand while performing a solo at the upper end of the split keyboard.

The powerful warm and crispy sound of this new synthesizer flagship will become the center of your keyboard setup. If you would like expand the Accelerator‘s sonic power even more you can get additional voices with our DSP expansion module. The DSP expansion does not only add extra polyphony to the Accelerator – you will also be able to use up to eight independent synthesizer sounds at a time with the integrated multimode feature.

Analog synthesis returns, in the legendary KORG tradition
Korg is no newcomer to the joys of analog synthesis. Back in the 1970s, our astounding fully polyphonic PS-3000 Series and our affordable semi modular MS Series set the bar for creative musicians around the globe. Surely one of the most popular of Korg’s analog synthesizers was the coveted MS-20, famous for its dynamic sound creation capabilities and its fat, snarly, expressive filter. Kept popular by dance and electronic artists, this legendary MS-20 filter came back to life using the Component Modeling Technology in Korg’s Legacy software collections. Now you can experience the glorious, evocative MS-20 filter along with true analog synthesis in Korg’s new monotron Analogue Ribbon Synthesizer!!

Analog on the go!
Powered by two alkaline AAA batteries, the compact monotron can be held in one hand. Although small enough to easily carry with you, the amazing monotron is packed with KORG’s legendary analog technology, generating thick and powerful sounds. Concentrating on the most important sound parameters, the controls have been streamlined as much as possible. The panel contains only five knobs and one switch. With this level of simplicity, now anyone can easily enjoy the world of analog synthesizers.

Product Highlights:

  • Full-fledged, true analog synthesizer: VCO, VCF, LFO

  • Inspiring, easy-to-play ribbon keyboard

  • Intuitive, fun-to-tweak controls

  • Features the same classic analog filter found in the legendary Korg MS-10 & MS-20

  • Filter any external source using the audio input jack

  • LFO can modulate either pitch of filter cutoff

Synths and drums for Android phones

March 29, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Synths and drums for Android phones

This weekend I started to download a whole bunch of different synths and drum pads for my Android / Google phone and boy was I surprise how much crap their was. I believe I downloaded 10 or so different synths and drum pads and none of them was even close to being funny to play around with.

Here are a couple of the ones Itried:

  1. Drum Hero Lite
  2. Free drum pad for Android
  3. aPorta Studio
  4. Synthesizer 2
  5. Virtual Synthesizer
  6. KeffMeff

Good thing with them was that all of them worked (!) and was fairly easy to load, learn and play around with, but none of them was even close to something I would even consider using in any music production. Sure they are all free or very sheap, but still comparing with some of the free games you can access and considering what you can get via your iPhone – Android Market has a long way to go.

So what have I learned – if you want to download some kinky toys for your kids to play around with for five minutes on your way to the supermarket in your car, then Yes go ahead but if you actually would like to have something that you can enjoy – wait another 6 months before accessing the Android market again, if you are looking for cool music making software, or better yet continue to use your iPhone.

All things negative, well I have to say that KeffMeff at least had some cool sounds going :-)

March 29, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on New analog challenger to the microMOOG

This is a demo of the Helmtronic Challenger – a new retro-style analog synthesizer.

Only at the MusikMesse you have the opportunity to meet with a manufacturer of analog synthesizers all buttons and knobs. Challenger and equipment with four oscillators, two filters, dual audio path and panel-style recliner Minimoog. The price, once reached the marketing of the series, should be very interesting.
