Biscuit – LoFi FX unit
OTO Machines has launched a new hardware FX unit providing 8 bit distortion, digital character and aliasing effects combined with a multimode analog filter to get a warm and fat sounds.
Biscuit is using 8-bit converters, digital processing and analog resonant filters opening up a wide range of sounds from harsh distortion, digital and aliasing artifacts to warm and fat 8-bit sounds.

Thermostatic shuts down
Swedish synthpop band Thermostatic has just announced that “after nearly seven years of making music together they’ve decided to turn the engines off” and that “it is time to move on, but they’re not sorry and hope that none of you out there are either”.
The previously announced gig in Gothenburg on May 1 will be the last and the band invites everyone to take part in the set list construction.
Club The Station hosts the release party for the Twice a Man album the same night in the same city.
New release of Record
Record 1.0.1 is a free maintenance update that resolves several minor issues in Record 1.0. The update also includes a few new features, here are the highlights directly from Propellerheads:
- Audio input/output with built-in audio hardware on Mac
Record 1.0.1 features custom audio drivers for combinations of the default audio Inputs and Outputs on Mac computers running Mac OS X 10.5 or later. This way you won’t have to create an Aggregate Device to allow for simultaneous use of audio inputs and outputs in the built-in audio hardware. - Pod Farm 2 support
Line 6 has just released the Pod Farm 2 application, which includes changes to the Tone format. Since the Line 6 Amp devices in Record load and save Tones, this has resulted in some changes in Record 1.0.1- The Line 6 Amp devices in Record 1.0.1 load Tones of the Pod Farm 1 or Pod Farm 2 format.
- The Line 6 Amp devices in Record 1.0.1 will always save Tones in the Pod Farm 2 format. These Tones cannot be opened for editing in Pod Farm 1 – you need to use Pod Farm 2.
- Multiple audio file import
The “Import Audio File…” function now supports import of multiple audio files at once. - Record Performance Automation for Audio Tracks and Mix Channel Tracks
It is now possible to send performance controllers to Audio Tracks and Mix Channel Tracks. For example, if you have a Line 6 Guitar Amp device as an insert effect, you can now use an Expression pedal to control the Wah effect (and record this as automation if you like).

The MIDI instructor
The MIDI Piano Instructor is a tool aimed at improving the piano keyboard self-teaching experience with direct interaction between the student and software (or human, remote) teacher:
The scheme is simple : a Personal Computer running music-teaching software or regular score composing/playing software (Sonar, Cakewalk, Sibelius, Rosegarden,..) is connected trough its MIDI out port to the MIDI in port of the ‘MIDI Piano Instructor’.
Optionally the MIDI through port of the MIDI instructor can be connected to the MIDI in port of the electronic keyboard or piano. The same MIDI messages that play the music or the exercises on the piano, light up the LEDs on top of the piano keys. The student replicates the exercises watching directly the keyboard without diverting attention from the piano keyboard to look at the PC screen. Voice messages in synch with the exercises (some music composing software support it) might add an extra layer of interaction.

No modification is necessary to the musical instrument as the LED bar is self contained and can be placed on the piano or organ with some velcro strap.
