“Myrddins Cave” – synth / Piano impro, lounge / chill style

October 31, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on “Myrddins Cave” – synth / Piano impro, lounge / chill style

Nicky Bendix has posted this chill out ambient synth experience. Surrounded by gear he acts like a true electronic musician. Her’s what he have to say about it;

Actually should be called “Merlins Cave” or “The Crystal Cave” – Myrddin Emrys is not really Arthurian, rather Celtic – and the cave is definitly Arthurian. But alas, I liked this combination of names better. The cave in question is the seat of Merlins magical povers and heart of the dragon. Interestingly there exists two semitic books about Adam and Eve where they also stay in a crystak cave underground after leaving Eden…

This is a lounge / chill impro – a new direction I am envestigating for a little while.

More information on our forthcoming virtual instrument, Geist, to be released on November 17th 2010. The price will be $249 / £157 / €189.

It appears to be some kind of groove machine or a simplified DAW. The emphasize appears to be on sampling, re-sampling, slicing and sequencing! Perhaps they are heading for the Reason market segment??

64bit support in the updated Melodyne

October 30, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on 64bit support in the updated Melodyne

Celemony has updated their awesome Melodyne Editor to version 1.2, providing 64-bit support and improved transfer handling as well as extending MIDI export to the plug-in implementations of Melodyne editor and assistant. Melodyne essential supports additional plug-in formats and can now also be operated in stand-alone mode.

The highlight of Version 1.2 is support for 64-bit operation, which in compatible DAWs brings great advantages: Melodyne can be used on more tracks and process longer transfers as well as being extremely stable in operation. Major gains have been made not only in terms of performance and reliability but also in terms of speed: the detection of the transferred material with Version 1.2 is up to 30% quicker – even in 32-bit operation.

The handling of transfer storage paths is easier in Version 1.2 and more transparent too. In many DAWs (currently Cubase 5.5, Nuendo 5, Pro Tools LE/MP 8.0.4, Pro Tools HD 8.1), the saving of transfers is even automatic in the current DAW project. The list of DAWs supported by Celemony and tested with Melodyne also includes from Version 1.2 onwards Sonar, Digital Performer, Nuendo and Studio One.

The update to Version 1.2 is free-of-charge for registered users. More information on Celemony Melodyne Editor.

Tiger Dance – KORG Monotron groove session

October 30, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Tiger Dance – KORG Monotron groove session

audibleobsession has posted this nice KORG Monotron groove session

A simple KORG Monotron groove. All sounds are played with the KORG Monotron Analogue Synthesizer. Additional drums from NI Battery 3 (Preset “Dragon Kit”) and convolution reverb from NI Reflektor. Compression and EQ from UAD 1176LN, Helios Type 69 EQ, and Ableton Live’s 8-Band (mostly for LPF to get rid of that notorious hum that plagues the Monotron). Line-in recording into my trusty M-Audio Firewire Solo. That’s it!

Dancing girls are public domain videos found on archive.org.

Apologies if the bassline and groove get repetitive, really just a quick tune trying to show the kind of badass basslines and leads you can get from the Monotron. It really shines when you get some nice PWM going and push that MS20 filter hard. The LFO self oscillates nicely too. Overall, the best $60 bucks I’ve ever spent. Looking forward to moding it now.
