Gp2x Piggy Tracker Midi Interface Techno Session

March 31, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Gp2x Piggy Tracker Midi Interface Techno Session

Toytone session with the Piggy Midi Interface for Gp2x Handheld created by Logan Ericson (Low-Gain) and Firestarter. Setup is done like that:

Gp2x goes into Computer (Ableton Live) and I split the Midi channels into separate instruments. In this session I used sounds of the Piggy Tracker, Reason, Doepfer Dark Energy. The Evolver is used as Effects Unit.

Surprisingly smooth session.. Some more bouncy stuff will follow..
Next time I will show how to come to a quick end :)

Free synth for Ableton

March 31, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · 1 Comment

One of the things I want to do with this site is to share some of the tools I use to create music. If you are an Ableton Live user, this post is for you.

I created this synth using a sample of my laptops speakers belting out a screeching feedback from the internal microphone. As unpleasant as the sample itself sounds, it makes for a pretty atmospheric and dreamy sounding synth.

The Laptop Feedback instrument rack for Ableton Live is available to download from AfroDjMac.

Little Endian has released version 2.4 of SpectrumWorx, a sound mangler effect for Windows and Mac.

This version adds LFO automation support, enhances the GUI with new parameter control: a symmetrical knob, and adds a 50-preset signature bank created by Martin Walker. Both OS versions have also been updated with stability and performance improvements.

“We are extremely pleased that Martin has applied his sound design skills to our latest release,” commented Little Endian CEO Danijel Domazet. “We hope he will be inspired to create even more presets for us in the future.” Says Martin Walker: “SpectrumWorx has been my favourite secret weapon for some time now – I love its extreme sonic transformations. If you’re searching for new sounds, it doesn’t come much better than this!”

SpectrumWorx is available to purchase for Windows and Mac for $119 USD.

Changes in BloXpander v1.2.4

  • Improvements:
    • Overall improvement of Audio and MIDI engines.
    • BloXpander now detects missing audio interfaces and/or problems with your ASIO drivers on startup.
    • Parameters names (LCD emulator) are now updated in the case of “macro” parameters.
    • “Virtual pots” of the “main” MIDI controller are now updated on relevant changes from a plugin interface (MC mode only).

    • New “minimize” button.
  • Fixed bugs:
    • The search box (plugins case) is more stable on fast typing.
    • Plugins providing an empty GUI (null height and/or width) are now correctly handled.
    • Fixes a bug related to mouse control (which could have been lost in some rare cases).
    • Fixes a rare MIDI “stuck notes” issue.
    • Workarounds implemented to resolve incompatibilities with (two) 3rd party plugins.

BloXpander for Windows is available to purchase for 69 EUR.

In Search of the Unsound, Part I
PlayDocs 2011

The Pleasure of Fear: Horror at Unsound

Horror is an essential element in modern music that aspires to break sonic boundaries and generate new spaces for expression and emotions. The Polish Unsound festival, celebrated every autumn in the cold climate of Kraków, knows that all to well, and that’s why the 2010 edition had the concept of horror as its central theme, with artists such as Ben Frost and Demdike Stare. The PlayTV cameras were there and didn’t only record the performances at Unsound. We went with the intention of exploring horror’s place in music, led by journalist Philip Sherburne, our guide from place to place, across artist to artist, and who led our reflections through the labyrinth of emotions that is Unsound. What you will see below is the first episode –with pivotal artists Demdike Stare– of a long documentary in several parts about fear, the pleasure it produces, and the great festival that is Unsound.
