Moog releases free Halloween sound set for Animoog

October 31, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Moog releases free Halloween sound set for Animoog

Moog Music has announced that it has paired up with sound design and synthesist wizards Drew Neumann and Kevin Lamb to concoct a brew of unsettling and bone-chilling sounds that are now available as a free download for Animoog, the incredibly popular, professional polyphonic synthesizer designed for Apple’s iPad.

Moog instruments have been iconic in popular music for more than 40 years, but they’ve also been responsible for creating the sounds of fear, suspense and terror in popular cinema. From Hollywood blockbusters to horror films, and even The Simpsons’ Halloween specials, Moog synthesizers have added a spooky element to thousands of soundtracks.

In the “spirit” of Moog’s scary side, and due to the phenomenal success of Animoog as one of the top-10 paid iPad apps on the iTunes store, Moog Music is offering a Halloween sound set to users for free on it’s website (http://www.moogmusic.com/content/animoog) through Friday, November 4.

“It’s always thrilling to hear the new sounds that artists and sound designers create when we have developed a new instrument,” said Cyril Lance, chief engineer at Moog Music. “In this case, Animoog inspired Drew and Kevin to create an entire library of spooky sounds for Halloween which we are extremely excited to share with you.”

The add-on to Animoog includes presets that span the range from sci-fi to horror, and, in some cases, look like their names. Users can watch for the Zombie Hand, run from the Cyclops, escape the Evil Portal, and avoid the Scythe of the Grim Reaper!

The heart of Animoog is Moog’s Anisotropic Synthesis Engine (ASE), a technology that has been in development at Moog for nearly six years. Animoog captures the vast sonic vocabulary of Moog synthesizers and applies it to the modern touch surface paradigm, enabling any user to quickly sculpt incredibly fluid and dynamic sounds that live, breathe, and evolve as they play them. Whether users are new to synthesizers or are professional musicians, Animoog’s unique user interface gives them the ultimate tool for total creative expression.

Animoog is currently available on the iTunes app store for the iPad and iPad 2 for a limited time price of only $.99 USD (returning to the regular price of $29.99 USD November 18).

Fun stuff – Feats Per Minute

October 31, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Fun stuff – Feats Per Minute

What if you would be able to generate music by the simple act of riding your bike? This project started with that question. We have build the first prototype and thanks to Jeffry Sol and Vincent Beijersbergen we were able to do so in a month. And yes it was pretty difficult, but loads of fun…. the idea is pretty simple; basicly, a wheel and dynamo work the same way as a record player. But it was not as easy as it looks. First, we had to come up with a solution for the wheels; how can we change the records? The forfork was blocking the wheel. That’s why we changed a 30 year old bike into a lefty bike; and build a construction that would still support the weight and would be strong enough for people to ride on it. The biggest challenge of all was to make sure that the needles would stick to the record and follow the grooves, without skipping too much. Therefor we bought two vertical record players and took them apart, to see how they worked. Also; we wanted our bike to be as low tech as possible; that’s why the only “extra” energy we used was a 9 volt battery to support the amplifier. In order for the records to run smoothly, we also had to change the crank of the bike and the chain. After that, we build our own horn, to have some extra volume, and we sprayed the whole bike black. We had some sponsors like bikestores, handy people and DJ’s and that’s how our dream in progress turned out to be real… Here’s to the crazy ones; thank you guys, you rock. – Merel, Pieter and Liat

ps:
I re-uploaded video after a you tube message saying that: Your video, may have content that is owned or licensed by EMI…
(what the ^%@£$!)
The reason of that message is probablly one audio sample from the prodigy at the end of the video (on the making off) so on this part instead of the prodigy now we can hear a very small part of my friends famous Greek band named direct connection( + the module).

INSTRUCTIONS/DETAILS
—————————————————

-SWIPE in any direction to create a TONE. Tones are higher towards the top and right side of the grid. The tones will move on the grid in the swipe direction and continue bouncing between the edges of the grid and the start position of the tone. Every grid edge have its own instrument and you can change the setup whenever you want using the instrument buttons.

– TAP the grid to create a BOUNCE EDGE. When a tone hit a bounce edge, it will turn 90 degrees and change instrument. Tap again to change the orientation of the bounce edge and tap a third time to remove the bounce edge from the grid.

-The tones are arranged in PENTATONIC MUSICAL SCALES which makes every swipe sound good. You can change the scales choosing from a total of 14 major and minor scales – the possibilities are endless!

-Use the PLAY/PAUSE BUTTON to pause your beat. Tones can still be created in pause mode and this can be used to make your beat more precise.

-Use the LOOP MODE TOGGLE BUTTON to switch loop mode on and off. This can be used to first create a cool beat in loop mode and then switch it off to start playing some melody to your beat.

Here are two videos featuring the Jupiter-4 and theDW-6000

An old demo song from 2007, that consists of Roland Jupiter-4 sounds with the use of three effects pedals. The drum samples are orginally from a ZOOM drum machine. The drums have been arranged at the computer, everything else was played by hand and recorded in realtime.

A demo song, that completely consists of KORG DW-6000 sounds with the use of only one effects pedal – a BOSS RV-5 Digital Reverb. The drums have been arranged at the computer, everything else was played by hand and recorded in realtime. Not one single melody line has been repeated.
