New DAW in the making called Chaotic

March 31, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on New DAW in the making called Chaotic

Chaotic is a new upcoming DAW built from scratch, no big graphical elements in in, so it’s reduced to the most important arrangement features.

There is a pattern structure in it – you can trigger patterns by design which is different to other DAWs, of course it might not be TR-style sequencing in here but one step into another direction.

Here are some snaps of it:

The basic purpose of Chaotic is to be handy music composing tool, allowing to achieve complex results with minimal interface losses. Currently, the main program features are:

  • Universal composition arranger, utilizing keyboard input and allowing to sequence wide variety of elements — from text notes and bookmarks to instruments’ notes, automation envelopes and patterns in a single field;
  • Three different pattern types: pianoroll, step sequencer and text pattern with ability to convert between types;
  • Automation of any available parameter with envelopes, automation recording;
  • Various effect symbols support: slide, vibrato, mute, reverse (for samples), transpose and so on;
  • Autopatterns feature. Autopattern is the pattern, that you can define for any instrument to be triggered with every note of the instrument. For example, you can place some envelope into some instrument’s autopattern and easily implement sidechaining;
  • Support for samples as usual instruments — basic sampler functionality integrated (looping, volume envelope, etc);
  • Mixer with 32 independent channels + 3 send channels + 1 master channel;
  • VST instruments and VST effects support;
  • Built-in subtractive FM/RM synthesizer, 13 built-in DSP effects;
  • Rendering into WAV, OGG Vorbis and FLAC formats;
  • Primary use of linear sliders, instead of knobs, for adjusting various parameters;
  • Lightweight and transportable installation. You can even copy the whole program directory to a flash drive and work from this flash drive on any machine you want;
  • No loading time.

Going forward:

Regarding further development, there are many interesting things, we’re thinking of, varying from traditional stuff, such as audio-clips, MIDI devices support and new built-in synths/effects to different sophisticated and non-traditional things, such as additional pattern types (e.g. tracker pattern — vertically oriented tabular pattern editor), descriptional sequencing with formulas and controlled randomness, sequencing and editing macros, pattern presets, pattern parametrization, and so on. Also, we’re always looking for interface design and data visualization improvements. Interface design and usability is what we consider as factor of tremendous importance in experimenting and interaction with such visually-indetermined thing as sound and music.

NOISY JELLY

This project is a fully working prototype made with Arduino and Max/Msp, there are absolut no sound editing in the video…

And download the Project pdf here (pluvinage.eu/NOISYJELLY_presskit.pdf)

Noisy jelly is a game where the player has to cook and shape his own musical material, based on coloured jelly.

With this noisy chemistry lab, the gamer will create his own jelly with water and a few grams of agar agar powder. After added different color, the mix is then pour in the molds. 10 min later, the jelly shape can then be placed on the game board,and by touching the shape, the gamer will activate different sounds.

Technically, the game board is a capacitive sensor, and the variations of the shape and their salt concentration, the distance and the strength of the finger contact are detected and transform into an audio signal.
This object aims to demonstrate that electronic can have a new aesthetic, and be envisaged as a malleable material, which has to be manipulated and experimented.

Remove the reverb from your recordings…

It sounds like magic. Removing the reverb from your audio recordings.

UNVEIL is a real-time, de-mixing based plug-in that allows attenuating or boosting reverb components within a mixed signal of any channel count, including mono sources, as well as modifying reverb characteristics. Additionally, UNVEIL allows you to bring the key features of a recording into focus, or move them to the background, by attenuating or boosting perceptionally less important signal components. Based on our proprietary, artificial intelligence based MAP (Mixed-Signal Audio Processing) technology, UNVEIL allows fixing previously unusable location audio and dialog, tightening up live music recordings, removing reverb and “mud” from musical signals, as well as creative sound design.
