Fred’s vocals by DECTalk Express which is also used by Stephen Hawking. Cindy and Kate’s vocals utilized two HP Scanjet 3C flatbed scanners. The robot guitar, keyboard, snare and bass drum all are controlled with a couple of PIC16F84A microcontrollers.

special thanks goes out to:

Chris Rasmussen who offered to fly me and my robot band down to Athens, Georgia for the Art Rocks Athens Festival. Sadly due to my work schedule I could not make it. What he didn’t know I was already secretly working on my next video so I offered to promote this great venue.

Pastor Snoopi Botten has provided great on-line material with respect to programming the DECTalk speech synthesizer.http://theflameofhope.co/DECTALK.html

Special thanks goes out to Greg Howley and without his help this project would of never seen the light of day.

Korg DW-8000 demo

Demo of the Korg DW-8000, Programmable Digital Waveform Synthesizer from 1985

Take Korg’s first digitally controlled analog synth hybrid (DW-6000) two steps higher and you get the more popular DW-8000. Sound is digitally generated from the DWGS (Digital Waveform Generator System) and has been doubled from 8 sampled digital waveforms to 16 simple analog to complex digital waveforms. The DW-8000 has 8 voice polyphony in two modes, or one monophonic mode with all eight voices stacked. The analog VCF resonant filter and VCA both have independent ADBSSR envelopes. Parameters can be altered in real time via a single programmable slider. There are 64 presets that can be reprogrammed by the user.

In comparison to the DW-6000, the DW-8000 expanded to 8 notes polyphony, 16 sampled waveforms, a velocity sensitive keyboard with programmable aftertouch, auto-bend, a simple arpeggiator and a digital delay unit. The Digital Delay was an astonishing goody for the time, offering up to 512ms delay, phasing, flanging, chorusing and other time effects. Both the Arpeggiator, Auto-Bend and Digital Delay make this synth an inspiring and great sounding machine to use for great 303 basslines, techno and house bass and synth sounds and more! The EX-8000 (pictured above) is a rackmount version of the DW-8000. Several 3rd-party developers offered expansion boards for the DW-8000 providing up to 1024 presets, layered sounds, keyboard splits and Sample+Hold for the LFO.

Mike Walters makes some experimental and  unique synth toys under the name Mystery Circuits.

Zenotron – Built for my friend Zeno in 2014. Case was built from an old modem, the “monitor” is a filmstrip viewer cut in half. Keys come from some toy piano with each key activating a tactile switch. Micro joystick (Parallax brand) controls arpeggio rate and waveform. Sound from Nebulophone clocks a 4017 based sequencer to blink the 88 LEDs mounted in a pipette box. 1/4″ output, 9VDC external power supply. www.mysterycircuits.com

Phoenix Studio is coming to Android and iOS. Three monosynths, a drum machine, a mixer and some effects – what else do you really need? Oh yeah, a sequencer, so you can put it all together! And all this is what PhoenixStudio is!

Below is a text from Android Mobile on the topic:

This is a great new addition to the Android music making applications if you are interested in the more acid / synthesizer aspect of music making, but can of course be used for more than acid type of sounds. It comes with three Synthesizers and one Drum track with the possibility to sequence and comes with some effects plus the possibility to record changes on the fly.
It is the same amount tracks, sound modules and being 303’ish in the sounds it creates it could be compared to Mikrosonics RD4. The biggest difference is that RD4 is much easier to use as a Groovebox ( if not the easiest to use Groovebox ) and RD4 comes with more effects, more possibilites and full midi integration but…
Have not used PhoenixStudio much but my impression is it seems to have much clearer and better sound, making it interesting for people that would like something similar to RD4 but are more interested in the sound and less in the Groovebox aspect.
