Ableton takes off into space
Aggregat is a gesture-based digital audio workstation for sound production in Ableton Live 8.
The interface allows up to three people to create music collaboratively in one single set . According to developers, “Aggregat brings back the performative band-character into digital music: Instead of watching somebody (DJ) looking like he‘s checking emails, the audience experiences a show.”
Aggregat was was designed by studio nø: Antonio de Luca, Daniel Dormann and Andreas Unteidig. Aggregat is still in experimental phase.

What Is Aggregat? (Googlish)
Aggregate is a gesture-based digital audio workstation (DAW) for sound production in Ableton live 8. The interface allows multiple musicians to bring to a device to collaboratively play a set, which is why unit is primarily for live performance. The focus of the software is the implementation of common standards in a multi-touch environment. MIDI interfaces are not replaced, but on aggregate together, where can the musician and the Midimapping effect controls wire themselves. Audio can be distributed across the table to multiple channels opened and edited in real time. This helps the area of hardware, in which all the musicians face each other and mutual gestures are persecuted, and attempts at mutual understandings back an aspect to electronic music lead to: the performance. The viewer no longer has the feeling of someone watching from behind a laptop with email, retrieve, but experienced a new kind of concert. A core concept of the program is the conductor. He is a mixer and clock control samples produced effect chains and loops. It suited the gesture-based control of the table finish to a great flow of the last decade: the lines between DJ and musician finally repealed and the DJ to make it a virtuoso.
The instruments themselves are previously arranged in Ableton Live 8 and prepared. About naming conventions assignments to various input devices (eg keyboard or a Supermodel, be supplied). This unit receives access to all instruments and their control, both programs communicate both OSC and MIDI. The former is mainly used to all aspects related to remote control of Ableton Live, the latter to change effects, parameters, and of course sending notes.By Ableton Live’s MIDI mapping functions and aggregate any possibility to add controls and areas assigned to the table, there is the possibility to make all the setup for most peculiar desires. It was programmed in Java using the Aggregate Processing Library. To process the surface touches the TUIO interface was implemented. To generate run time MIDI and OSC signals, where the libraries were rwmidi of Ruin & care and use oscP5 by Andreas Schlegel.
