Roland has announced the release of the SYSTEM-100 PLUG-OUT Software Synthesizer, a modern reproduction of the now-legendary semi-modular monosynth from 1975.
It integrates the features of the original Model 101 Synthesizer and Model 102 Expander units, resulting in an incredibly fat and uniquely versatile two oscillator monosynth with modular routing capabilities.
Designed for SYSTEM-1 and 1m as well as Mac and PC hosts, the new SYSTEM-100 uses Analog Circuit Behavior to faithfully recreate every detail of the warm, expansive sound of the original, with a level of authenticity that can only come from Roland.

Roland System 1M and System 100M together
This video is mostly about controlling an external LFO via keyboard CV and have it modulate filter, amp and pulse width. The first clip is 100M’s LFO modulating 1M’s filter. 2nd clip showcases the 100M’s VCO through the 1M’s filter. Both of these clips also feature TR-8 rhythms and sequencing from the Arturia MicroBrute. Last clip demonstrates external LFO from 100M modulating the 1M’s amplifier section.
Roland System-100 Sample & Hold Improvisation
An improvised demonstration of the Sample & Hold function on the Roland System-100 semi-modular synthesizer. All sounds were recorded live from the synth. Reverb was added later. No other modifications has been made to the sounds. The style is experimental / minimal. No drums etc, just the sounds of the Roland System-100.
Another simple video in the “Playing With” series of videos just playing around on some nice gear. Hopefully it demonstrates some of the sound and features without going into one my full overview videos. Most of all though it’s something I’ve some real fun with! Sampled the System 100m a lot too, so it’ll make it’s way into some new packs/products soon enough.
This was filmed at the University of Huddersfield! Some amazing facilities that I’m lucky to be able to get my hands on!
