“‘Ascension’ is the first of 4 video-clips resulting from a session held at Alexander Robotnick’s studio in April 2012.
A couple of cuts were made to bring the original 20 minute session down to a 10 minute video. No adjustment to the music was made in post-production. The parts played by Alexander Robotnick and Ludus Pinsky are totally improvised, with the exception of the central break and the theme of ascending notes that gives the title to the track. These two were previously agreed upon by the two musicians. The rhythmic part and the bass line were written on the sequencer in the modular synth operated by Ludus Pinsky. Some other sequencer lines derive from the main bass line.
The computer appearing in the video was used to record the performance on 24 tracks.
The video was shot by three standing cameras. The shots made by the mobile camera were mainly used to fill in the cuts.
“Ascension” is part of The Analog Session’s forth-coming album featuring Alexander Robotnick and Ludus Pinsky that will be released in November 2012 by Hot Elephant Music.

Wikipedia: The Wasp was undoubtedly EDP’s most famous product, distinctive for its black/yellow colour scheme and brittle, cheap construction. It was notorious for its lack of a mechanical keyboard; instead, it used flat conductive copper plates, hidden under a silk-screened vinyl sticker. This was claimed to be unreliable, unintuitive, and devoid of much of the expression present with a real keyboard. Despite these flaws, the Wasp was fairly advanced technologically. It was one of the first commercially available synthesisers to adopt digital technology, which at the time was just beginning to become a standard. It also utilised a proprietary system for connecting several Wasp synthesisers together, predating the invention and standardisation of MIDI by several years. The digital interface should not, however, be confused with MIDI, even though similar DIN plugs are utilised (7-pin DIN instead of the 5-pin DIN which MIDI standardized to.
Architecturally, the wasp is dual DCO (not VCO) synth, with dual envelopes, and single, switchable (low/band/highpass) CMOS-based filter.

Wikipedia: “The Roland MKS-80 Super Jupiter is an 8-voice polyphonic analog synthesizer that was manufactured by Roland between 1984 and 1987. It is the only of MKS series of synthesizers to have fully analog voltage controlled oscillators. Contrary to popular belief, the voice architecture is more closely related to the Jupiter-6 synthesizer than the Jupiter-8, the service manual states that “The module board of MKS-80 features the following in addition to that of JP-6, its brother module. ) HPF_ )Low boost circuit in the 2nd VCA. )DC supply current boost circuit.” The unit is fully capable of producing most of the Jupiter-8’s signature sounds, in addition to many sounds unique to the MKS-80. In 1985 out came another revision of MKS-80, known as “Rev 5″, that had no ties with any previous Jupiter’s hardware, as it used a new generation of both Roland VCO’s, VCA’s and filter. The Rev 5 filter was also used in JX-8P, JX-10 and MKS-70 synthesizers.”

Fat sounding sequence from Modcan OSC and Pittsbourgh Filter, there are more modules involved in here like TipTop 808 and bit modifier from doepfer to from the snare I guess – and there’s a delay on it. – the sequencer is a Make Noise Brains with Pressure Points and Maths.

“Fascinating recording of Jupiter sounds (electromagnetic “voices”) by NASA-Voyager. The complex interactions of charged electromagnetic particles from the solar wind , planetary magnetosphere etc. create vibration “soundscapes”. Jupiter is mostly composed of hydrogen and helium. The entire planet is made of gas, with no solid surface under the atmosphere. The pressures and temperatures deep in Jupiter are so high that gases form a gradual transition into liquids which are gradually compressed into a metallic “plasma” in which the molecules have been stripped of their outer electrons. The winds of Jupiter are a thousand metres per second relative to the rotating interior. Jupiter’s magnetic field is four thousand times stronger than Earth’s, and is tipped by 11° degrees of axis spin. This causes the magnetic field to wobble, which has a profound effect on trapped electronically charged particles. This plasma of charged particles is accelerated beyond the magnetosphere of Jupiter to speeds of tens of thousands of kilometres per second. It is these magnetic particle vibrations which generate some of the sound you hear on this recording….”

Isao Tomita interviewed by Resident Advisor
Although it’s never had quite the same reputation as Walter Carlos’ Switched-On Bach, Isao Tomita’s 1974 album Snowflakes Are Dancing had an equally as powerful impact. The record was the result of Tomita’s extensive experiments with the Moog synthesizer, an instrument he went to great pains to bring to his studio in Japan. Similar to Carlos’ classically-inclined album, Tomita interpreted the works of Claude Debussy on Snowflakes. It took him 16 months to complete. It may be hard to grasp the significance of this album in the present day, considering the proliferation of powerful easy-to-use software synthesizers, but it’s not an overstatement to say that the explosion of electronic music that came afterwards was built on top of Tomita’s foundation.
Now 80 years old, Isao Tomita and Hideki Matsutake—Tomita’s pupil and, at one time, a member of Yellow Magic Orchestra—spoke to us about the dawn of electronic music, and where it is headed.
