Lemmy, best known as the founding and sole constant member of Motörhead, has passed away at the age of 70, a statement from the band has confirmed.

Taking to Facebook, the band said that that he had passed away “after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made it’s way down the street, with his family.” Over the course of his time with Motörhead, and previously Hawkwind, Lemmy, aka Ian Kilmister, had earned iconic rock ‘n’ roll status both for his musicianship and widely reported bad boy antics.

Tracktion-BioTek

Tracktion Corporation has released BioTek, an organic synthesizer plugin for Windows, Mac & Linux.

Introducing a premium quality virtual instrument that combines an advanced synthesis engine with a stunning array of sampled sounds from natural, urban and mechanical environments. Built on the entirely new Acktion™ platform, this “organic synthesizer” sounds like nothing else.

The single-screen user interface, dominated by a powerful XY controller and a number of soft controls that change function based on the particular patch in use, provides the flexibility of a modular synthesizer. BioTek, despite its wide range of sounds and complex control options, remains extremely easy and inspirational to use.

BioTek features

  • 20+ macro controls each controlling lots of parameters at once depending on the sound program
  • 4 operator FM with any sound source like VA waveforms or samples
  • 2 filters with all common filter types
  • Multi-stage LFOs (Wobble LFOs)
  • 32-stage envelopes with loops
  • Powerful modulation matrix
  • Modulatable 4-band equalizers per voice
  • 4 insert effects per sound layer with high quality effect algorithms
  • Powerful arpeggiator

BioTek for Windows, Mac & Linux (VST/AU/AAX) is available for purchase for $150 USD.

Kirnu Interactive has announced the release of Cream Mobile, a MIDI arpeggiator/phraser application for Apple iPad mobile devices.

Cream Mobile is a MIDI performer music application. This version is almost identical to the plug-in version except the mobile version includes an internal synthesizer and a single drum track.

Cream Mobile also has only one arpeggiator track by default. If needed, three more tracks can be purchased separately with in-app-purchase option.

This version can open plug-in version presets and vice versa.

Cream Mobile features

  • 4 Independent tracks (One track available by default. Other can be added via IAP).
  • 12 Patterns per track.
  • Internal 2 OSC synthesizer for every four tracks.
  • Two different views: Classic and quick edit view.
  • Live Keyboard, Chord Memory and Pattern Sequencer sections.
  • Sample accurate MIDI engine.
  • Easy to use note hold mode with transpose and bypass functionality.
  • Presets are compatible with the plugin version.
  • Powerful Pattern Step Data Section.
  • Tool section enables easy data editing.
  • All data sections are independent from each other.
  • Data sections can be looped with several different loop modes.
  • Chord memory section enables different chords to be used in every step.
  • Sequencer section enables sequencing the notes.
  • Accent, order, gate, accent, transposition, note divide, note shift.
  • 8 CC controls in each pattern.
  • MIDI learn for all knob controls.
  • Control Zone for changing most important parameters via external keyboard or MIDI events.
  • Audiobus (generator) support.
  • MIDI sync with host and slave mode.

The app is available for purchase for $9.99 USD and the in-app purchase for all tracks is $4.99 USD.

Protoverb – new ‘experimental reverb’, based on the idea of a “room simulator”

December 29, 2015 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Protoverb – new ‘experimental reverb’, based on the idea of a “room simulator”

protoverb-free-reverb

u-he has released Protoverb – an ‘experimental reverb’, based on the idea of a “room simulator”.

Most algorithmic reverbs try to avoid resonances or model the reflections of sound from a rooms walls. Protoverb does the opposite. It builds up as many room resonances as possible, modeling the body of air in the room. It therefore does not need to modulate or colour the signal.

The result is a very natural sounding reverbration with some interesting features: Long standing frequencies resonate louder, as if the air takes some time to get excited. Multiple instruments don’t mash into a diffuse mud, they stay distinct. If you play a short melody, the room seems to repeat a ghost echo of that melody. Those properties are indeed found in churches and large halls, but they’re rarely found in conventional algorithmic reverbs.

To achieve this kind of stuff, Protoverb works with loads and loads of parallel, serial and networked delays. By all means, there is no mathematical formula that makes such a structure sound “just right”. As with all delay based reverbs, it’s down to trial and error, and maybe a lot of luck with random values. Therefore we designed Protoverb to present you with delay lines of random lengths and a random assembly of networking and feedback strategies. Which, if you’re lucky and you come across a great setting, you can submit to our website, along with a few details

The small text box at the bottom contains two random entries. The first part depicts the network structure, strategies for a spatial layout and distribution of delay taps, strategies for finding useful delay lengths and so on. The second part is a seed for a pseudo-random number generator which is used to find various parameters, such as average delay length, which prime number to chose (if any) and so on. This text can either be edited by double click, or both parts can be independently randomized with the two random buttons below.

Protoverb is a free download, for Linux, OS X & Windows, from the u-he site.

AKAI AX60 – Relaxing Ambient Drone Music w/ Eventide Timefactor 【SYNTH DEMO】

December 28, 2015 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on AKAI AX60 – Relaxing Ambient Drone Music w/ Eventide Timefactor 【SYNTH DEMO】

AKAI AX60 ambient synth demo. Playing relaxing ambient drone music on vintage AKAI AX60 analog synthesizer. Delay effects from Eventide Timefactor pedal.

The AX60 is among some of the last true analog polysynths of the mid-eighties. It was Akai’s answer to the hugely successful Roland Juno series and Yamaha’s new digital DX-series. The AX60 is a programmable six-voice synth with a nice LFO, lowpass (VCF) filter, envelope sections, and more. An eight-voice version, the AX80, was already available.

akai_ax60_angle

Programming this synth is easy using dedicated sliders, knobs and/or buttons for its parameters. It also has a useful noise generator and some other cool functions that include auto-tuning, chorus, a multi-mode arpeggiator and a keyboard that can be split into two key-zones, making it somewhat bi-timbral. All six voices can be stacked in unison mode for a powerful and thick lead sound.
