Yazoo – Situation (Live synth cover)
This is “Synt5´s” take on reconstructing the influential synthpop track Situation by Yazoo.
Every synth line was played live, with no computers involved and no syncing other than our ears :). The drums were reconstructed from scratch using Reaper, and then bounced to audio and imported to the Sp404. The only sample was the notorious Alison Moyet’s laughter, as we were able to remake the “Move Out” choir with our own voices. The projection is Simian Mobile Disco’s Put Your Hand Together video, we thought it would somehow match the song – and it really did.
Please forgive the grainy quality, the shaky cameras and the few mistakes, we were just having fun.

Doppler Dome VST AU Audio Effect Plugin – Free from Aegean Music
Aegean Music has released Doppler Dome a free audio plug-in, for Mac & WIndows, based on the Doppler effect.
Explained simply, the Doppler effect is something that happens to sound when the listener and the sound source are getting closer together or farther appart. For example, a car sound when you are in the car might have a particular frequency, but the frequency will be lower if the car is moving away from you, and will be like a record played at a lower speed. If the car passes right by you it will be high as it gets closer and then low as it gets farther. Doppler dome lets you adjust the amount of the pitch effect as well as pan and volume based on distance.
In Doppler Dome, the center is the listener and the sound source moves along a path. Drag the dots to adjust the path’s bezier curves. The path can act like an LFO, or a loop. A midi note in message sent to the plugin will reset the path position to sync it with the project.
The Blend will mix the pitch effect with the dry signal, this is a bit like a chorus or modulated delay. The Pitch Scale knob determines how much pitch is affected, it can be turned off by setting it to zero. The Volume Scale Scale knob determines how much volume affected, based on distance. The Pan Scale Scale knob determines how much L/R position is affected, based on left and right position.
The buttons and switches can be used to set up curves and lines for the path (mouse over them to see their description).

Terence Fixmer | Aktion Mekanik Theme Versions | o-ton88
Kobosil, Norman Nodge and Marcel Dettmann offer new versions of Terence Fixmer’s 2003 “Aktion Mekanik Theme” on Ostgut Ton.
It’s safe to say that Terence Fixmer’s track “Aktion Mekanik Theme” (Music Man Records, 2003) was as much a landmark release for Techno as the whole Aktion Mekanik compilation was for EBM as a genre. “As an artist who’s been pushing EBM sounds into the modernity of Techno it was a logical step to do the compilation back then,” Terence says. “I wanted to show my influences as a Techno artist, as Detroit sounds weren’t my roots at all, but classics by Front 242, Fad Gadget, Nitzer Ebb, Crash Course In Science or Snowy Red.
I met Music Man’s Stefaan Vandenberghe through Emmanuel Top in ‘93, and of course I was a fan of his label – the label in Belgium at that time. Music Man was obviously the perfect place for this EBM project: they are from Belgium, they knew the bands, many of them were proud of this sound. So I discussed my idea of putting out a compilation with some classic and landmark tracks from the EBM direction with Stefaan, and it got made.”
While the original version is simultaniously being re-released on red 12“ vinyl on Music Man, Ostgut Ton offers three versions of “Aktion Mekanik Theme” – after the original found its way into the DJ sets of the remixers. “I was surprised as – to me – this track was a kind of forgotten one from a limited vinyl compilation.”, Terence continues. “And it was a nice surprise to see that young artists such as Kobosil are into this kind of music, too. Marcel suggested to give this track a new life through remixes. The Kobosil one injects an amazing energy with a great sound, I wish I would have done such a version at that time.”, Fixmer comments.
