Florian Schneider, who left Kraftwerk in 2008, has just released a new piece of music, ‘Stop Plastic Pollution’, as part of a campaign called ‘Parley For The Oceans”. Aimed at raising awareness of the fragility of the Earth’s oceans and to ‘collaborate on projects that can end their destruction”, Parley is a collection of “creators, thinkers and leaders”.

In an interview with Dazed Schneider explains that “taking a swim in the ocean at the coasts of Ghana, watching fishermen catch nothing but plastic garbage in their nets” provided his own motivation to create the new track. It was put together from samples of water dripping, sampled at a Dan Lacksman’s apartment in Brussels. Lacksman is one half of the legendary Belgian electronic duo Telex, who are featured in this month’s Electronic Sound, talking about their Eurovision performance of 1980. The idea for the track came Schneider’s friend and well-known German musician Uwe Schmidt, also known as Señor Coconut, who made an entire album of bossa nova Kraftwerk cover versions in 1997.

AAS-Ultra-Analog-Session-2

Applied Acoustics Systems has announced the release of Ultra Analog Session 2, a synthesizer instrument for Windows and Mac.

Ultra Analog Session 2 unfolds as a simple and fun synthesizer. At its core lies a “hard sync” oscillator and filter duo supplemented by a powerful unison imparting a rich and modern sound. Additionally, key synthesis controls, an arpeggiator, and a multi-effect module complete the package for a direct and ludic playing experience.

The factory library comprises 144 presets divided into the Arpeggio, Bass, Lead, Pad, and Polysynth categories. Artists, producers, and long-time AAS collaborators Richard Devine and Sean Divine have contributed 50 signature presets each to this collection.

“Ultra Analog Session may seem basic but it sounds surprisingly big,” said Marc-Pierre, CEO of AAS. “We’ve used the oscillator and filter from our renowned Ultra Analog VA-2 to form a new and original design. With these exceptional components and clever features, Ultra Analog Session delivers rich and expressive sounds that are just a treat to play.”

Ultra Analog Session 2 features

  • Signature Sounds — A superb sound library with signature presets from producers Richard Devine and Sean Divine.
  • Performance — Ultra Analog VA-2 will match your playing style or musical context with ease thanks to the tap tempo and sync to host clock options; poly- or monophonic with note priority keyboard modes; up-to-4-voice unison; glide and legato functions; and the flexible vibrato.
  • Arpeggiator — Ready, willing, and able, Ultra Analog VA-2’s arpeggiator offers various syncing resolutions, playing algorithms, and rhythmic patterns that will spruce up any chord progressions into percolating melodies or pulsing sequences.
  • Effects — You’ll love the pure raw sound of Ultra Analog Session, but the built-in effects will bring it to so many places that you’ll enjoy having them on hand.

Ultra Analog Session 2 for Windows and Mac (VST/AU/RTAS/AAX/Standalone) is available for purchase for the introductory price of $39 USD until January 15th, 2015 (regular $49 USD).

Iceberg Songs – Official Trailer

December 8, 2015 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Iceberg Songs – Official Trailer

Icebergs are crying. And we make them heard. With the power of music. Listen, understand and share – on http://www.icebergsongs.com/
A project by the UNFCCC.

Several musicians, including Trentemøller have now made music from the sounds that scientists at the South Pole recorded of an iceberg that ‘melts’. And it’s especially this ‘melts’ that is not well received by several scientific experts. They say that the band is being abused for the climate lobby because the sounds do not differ from sounds of icebergs that move, or hit each other as you can hear in the video below. So it’s indeed a bit odd to call it the sound of a melting iceberg…

The acoustics under the ice on the South Pole are being recorded since 2005 by scientists in the PALAOA (Perennial Acoustic Observatory in the Antarctic Ocean) who mostly study the sounds of the sea creatures in the Antarctic Ocean. They labeled the sounds as being from melting icebergs, but the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has been recording exactly the same sounds in the past few years of… growing and stranding icebergs.

The project itself is part of a United Nations program to draw attention to the much talked about global warming issue, something which is still up for debate though as there is absolutely no agreement between scientific experts that this is human made, let alone that there is a global warming. Nevertheless, quite an enjoyable project.

So far both the Danish DJ and producer Trentemøller and the German duo Tom and Sue Niklas (TFSNL) have recorded a song. Later also songs from other musicians will be released.
