Reaktor 6 – The Sound Of Blocks (all you need to know)
Native instruments has finally released Reaktor 6, the latest version of its software modular synthesizer. The update features Blocks – Eurorack-style virtual modules; new power developer features, an updated user interface; a lower price and more.
Reaktor 6 comes bundled with 30 Blocks in several categories, each with a specific purpose. Bento Box Blocks represent the core components of a modular synth setup. Boutique Blocks take inspiration from custom hardware that bring advanced sound shaping to the world of modular synthesis. Digilog Blocks create complex rhythms, process notes, and provide structure in patches. NI All-Star Blocks are single rack-style components of Native Instruments synths such as Rounds and Monark. The world of Blocks will continue to grow as the vibrant Reaktor community builds and shares new Blocks and Blocks patches – all available for free online at NI’s Reaktor User Library.

Seaboard RISE – new innovative and universally accessible, expressive MIDI controller
ROLI has announced the Seaboard RISE, which they describe as a universally accessible, expressive MIDI controller that empowers musicians to do more with a keyboard than ever before.
The Seaboard RISE builds on the technologies of the Seaboard GRAND. Like the Seaboard GRAND, the Seaboard RISE features patented SEA Interface technology, which remodels the keyboard as a pressure-sensitive, continuous surface that responds to even the subtlest gestures. ROLI says that, playing on its unique “keywaves,” musicians shape notes with unprecedented expressiveness, modulating the character of sound in real time with simple movements of the finger.
“Finally, musicians have at their fingertips an affordable and accessible tool that lets them create authentic instrumental simulations in real time. Combined with its strengths in creating fresh new sound interactions, the Seaboard RISE is truly a breakthrough for both musical performance and production.”
The Seaboard RISE exemplifies a fastgrowing new category of hardware and software sometimes called Expressive MIDI (more technically referred to as Multidimensional Polyphonic Expression, or MPE) devices. The category’s products – including instruments like the Linnstrument and the Haken Continuum – focus on delivering acoustic-level electronic expression by enabling each individual note to be modulated in multiple ways in real time.
ROLI says that the Seaboard RISE marks a turning point in the accessibility of Expressive MIDI products to a broad consumer market. It is the first Expressive MIDI device to offer an easy-to-use multi-platform synth, the first with an integrated user control panel, and the first to perform wirelessly with an integrated battery and Bluetooth over MIDI. Seaboard RISE comes bundled with Equator, ROLI’s custom-built software synth designed exclusively for Expressive MIDI instruments. In Equator, the Seaboard RISE’s five primary dimensions of touch and gestural control – strike, press, glide, slide, and lift – are easily and independently mapped to a wide variety of sound parameters. Sliders on the left-hand control panel regulate the extent to which these parameters of gestural modulation are utilised, allowing the Seaboard RISE to behave like anything from a conventional keyboard controller – in easy-to-use “piano mode” – to a completely open-ended interactive surface.

Hologram – new creative Audio Unit effect processor that re-synthesizes the sound in real time
Sinevibes has announced the release of Hologram, a creative Audio Unit effect processor that re-synthesizes the sound in real time.
It does this by splitting the input signal into multiple frequency bands, analyzing their dynamics, and then recreating the signal’s spectrum with an array of sine oscillators. The result is a wide variety of pleasantly smooth synthetic tones whose spectral and dynamic characteristics are controlled by the input audio. To take it even further, Hologram also has two highly flexible, multi-waveform modulators that apply rhythmic motion to its re-synthesis engine.
The plugin features a color-coded interface with sharp graphics, handy parameter value displays and lively animations. A large spectrogram view allows to precisely see what the effect is doing. And as usual with Sinevibes software, Hologram supports Retina screens and offers great responsiveness even on old or low-spec hardware.

Comprehensive review of the Casio PT-80 keyboard

The PT-80 consists of a 2 octave monophonic keyboard with the sounds: piano, harpsichord, organ, violin, flute, clarinet, trumpet and celeste. The small keys on the left side is an auto chord section that is synchronized to the rhytm section. The rhytms are: Rock, disco, 16-beat, 2-beat swing, 4-beat swing, samba, bossanova, beguine, slow-rock, march, tango, waltz.
The rhythms are good and a useful thing is the ability to make fill-ins. If you, for instance, have choosen a disco rhythm and it is running, then press the disco button again and the fill-in comes.
Another feature of this model is the changeable ROM-pack that contains 4 melodies. These melodies can be played by the instrument alone or as a two way act: The instrument supplies the accompaniment, you do the melody.
