Some time back I was asked by Eddie from swedish synthpop act Page to make a remix/redux of there new hit song “Ett SOS” (reads basically “An SOS”), now finally the song that we made has been officially published on Page´s homepage and of course you can listen to it here as well:

Machine is a unique compilation album and collaborative effort, produced by the Elektron-Users community.
Machine – a single word and concept that has guided the imagination of electronic musicians for decades: one word that has captured the attention of electronic music makers, from the early pioneers to the electronic luminaries of today. As relevant as ever, we have chosen this concept to provide a starting point for the Machine compilation album. The compilation seeks to investigate various aspects of this term, and bring some new interpretations to the table.
The album consists of 15 magical tracks of contemporary electronic music, crafted by artists from all corners of the world. The tracks and artists are united by the Machine concept, and the loud and proud use of Elektron musical instruments. The love of Elektron instruments has been a primary inspiration behind the album, and what united us in the first place.
Machine is the second compilation crafted by the Elektron-Users community, and we hope it will bring as much joy as our first compilation, The 45 Tribute, did.
All proceeds from the album will go to the World Wildlife Foundation.

How the video was made:
We approached Jon with the idea for arm-mounted cameras a few weeks before the show, and luckily he was up for it, so we broke out the power tools and set about making some mounts: After dissecting a couple of tripods and orthapaedic elbow supports, we had a solid platform for the miniature cameras.
We covered the gig with 5 cameras in total: 2 roving cameras, 1 static, and the 2 ‘lipstick’ arm cameras that were wired into tape recorders at the back of the stage. The trickiest part was getting the cameras on and off Jon’s arms whilst he continued to play as his set is more or less continuous..
The ‘post production’ on this video was unorthodox: All analogue and all in-camera.
We were really keen on making a gritty, abstract performance video. So we set to work with magnets, screwdrivers, VHS tapes and a host of other techniques: We made an initial edit and played this back through a £3 TV we picked up at the local market, and ‘manipulating’ it with a screwdriver allowed us to flutter and flicker the image on screen. We’d also bought an industrial strength magnet and used that to distort and twist the picture on itself. We made several runs through the track in this way before playing everything out to VHS (with obligatory stomping and scrunching).
This effectively gave us a new set of footage to make a tailored, grunged-up edit of the original piece.

Listening in on Shigeto
AKA Zach Saginaw, Shigeto has been making collages of electronic beats, richly-textural releases, many of them following the narrative of his family’s experience in Japanese internment camps here in the US during World War II.
His main axe of choice turns out to be Propellerhead Reason, making use of programming Reason’s sweet sounding effects. He revealed that he plays a lot of rhythms live to maintain their feel. In this case, when he did turn to the programmed Redrum modules, he set the grid to 64th notes to actually program in swing syncopations.

15 people have been killed during the Love Parade
15 people (9 women, 6 men) have been killed in a stampede inside a tunnel crowded with techno music fans during the Love Parade which took place today in Duisburg (GER). Dozens more were injured.
Thousands of other partygoers kept partying at the event in Duisburg, near Duesseldorf, unaware of the deadly chaos that started when police tried to block thousands more people from entering the already-jammed parade grounds around 5PM today. Victims were crushed in the large tunnel leading to the event site. Duisburg city officials decided at a crisis meeting to let the parade go on to prevent more panic and another stampede.
