“Myrddins Cave” – synth / Piano impro, lounge / chill style

October 31, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on “Myrddins Cave” – synth / Piano impro, lounge / chill style

Nicky Bendix has posted this chill out ambient synth experience. Surrounded by gear he acts like a true electronic musician. Her’s what he have to say about it;

Actually should be called “Merlins Cave” or “The Crystal Cave” – Myrddin Emrys is not really Arthurian, rather Celtic – and the cave is definitly Arthurian. But alas, I liked this combination of names better. The cave in question is the seat of Merlins magical povers and heart of the dragon. Interestingly there exists two semitic books about Adam and Eve where they also stay in a crystak cave underground after leaving Eden…

This is a lounge / chill impro – a new direction I am envestigating for a little while.

Music Made With Buttons 4.0

Here’s a new video from Egadz. In this video you will se him performing his new song on, what we think is an Akai MPD24 Pad Controller, accompanied by a CME UF midi keyboard. All with some serious live looping, button mashing, and knob turning

Egadz, proprietor of Kid Without Radio records is also an underground phenomenon unto himself. His music is a unique blend of IDM/electronic experimental waves. Performing live Egadz is unlike his laptop contemporaries, everything is played out raw with an improvised wit. In the last 8 years he has built a successful indie record label that is now distributed through Alpha Pup, and has established a niche worldwide following. Egadz just spent the earlier part of this year on a successful 2 1/2 month, 32 show headlining tour in 8 different countries. His imprint is home to many great talents such as Edison, DJ Pain, and Upsidedown Astronaut. He is touring in support of his latest release; We Want Neutrinos.

A pure Nerd Revolt

Exactly two years ago this month, NR started working on our first track, “Doppelgänger”. Though we’d met only six months earlier, we already knew we were doppelgängers.

In celebration of the two amazing years it’s been since we wrote this song, here’s a video of us performing it 2010-style. You might notice that “The Great” is looking a bit greater– we just introduced a drum pad and two electric pianos to the arsenal!

Music at your fingertips

October 5, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Music at your fingertips

“Light Frequency Fingertips” is composed of four fingercaps, each containing light sensitive phototransistors. The fingercaps (made of bicycle tubes) are especially customized for the thumb and forefinger of both hands, and transform light frequencies into acoustic signals. Light, emitted by the displays of activated mobile phones, functions as the origin of the sounds. As each mobile phone’s display generates a different light frequency, each results in an audio signal with a different pitch. In addition, other electronic devices, such as flashing bicycle lights, can be used to generate rhythmic tones.

Performance: If the sensors are connected to 3 volt button cell batteries and the stereo jack is plugged into an amplifier, it’s time to play! Any subtle movement of the fingertips creates a slightly audible change in sound. Fading and mixing is also done by moving the fingers. Naturally some mobile phones switch into sleep mode while others stay active, so this adds a extended visual feature to the performance. In order to avoid interference or a disturbing hum, the instrument should be used in dark environments.
