Background info: This is first short intro vid for the new Macbeth X-Series Modules in 3U- more to follow- but I like the slightly heavy feel to this! You are basically listening to one oscillator triggering two dual EGs sweeping the the dual SV filter- so it’s one filter module that you are hearing!

In-depth on the Pittsburgh Modular

Pittsburgh Modular is building a uniquely skewed vision of modular synthesis. All of the Pittsburgh modules are handmade with the look of 1950′s science fiction laboratory equipment using bold components and unique layouts to promote interaction and experimentation. Fresh ideas in modern analog circuitry are used to create new, interesting, and strangely musical tones.

Dual Index: ($139)
An 8hp high quality dual linear VCA with both offset gain and attenuation plus a mix out and room for my big fingers. This module is based on the Generator’s Index circuit. Nice warm sound.
VCBend: ($139)
A 6hp control voltage modulation module. This module takes the bipolar control voltage input and bends it to the amount of the CV input in relation to the Internal Voltage Reference pot. This module favours esoteric applications over precision. More often than not the output voltage does not resemble the input in any way. The control voltage output of this module is always positive. Both the control voltage input and VC input are attenuverted.
GenXpander:
An output expander module for the Generator that is all about outputs.
It has a VC Wave Shaper to produce Saw and Pulse waveforms based on the selected Triangle and Square wave. Two BAD outputs produce “sub-octaves” based on the frequency relationship between Generator 1 & Generator 2. FM Source switch changes the waveform used for internal FM between Generator 1 and Generator 2. Options are Triangle, Internal FM Off, and the Variable Waveform the Generator module uses by default. Seperate Triangle and Square outputs for Generator 1 and Generator 2 to compliment the Variable waveform ouputs available on the Generator module.
Mod (Modulator):
A triple mode audio processor. The Modulator offers 3 types of effects based on the standard Ring Modulator circuit. Ring Modulator, Floating Z Modulator, and Linear Amplitude Modulator.
Type 1: Ring Modulator – Outputs the sum and difference of the X and Y inputs.
Type 2: Floating Z Modulator – Outputs the sum and difference of the X and Y inputs summed with the ambient voltage withing the circuit.
Type 3: Linear Amplitude Modulator – Outputs the sum and difference of the X and Y inputs summed with the carrier (Y) signal.

Investigating sound quality on the MacBeth Mk1 VORTEX
This vid gives a short demonstration of the quality of sound driving this thing straight from 2 x 9V batteries! To the left of the synth, you can see wires attached to the two batteries. For me- very interesting as the synth stay in tune very well here. Also tech folks please note- there are neither smoothing capacitiors or regulators of any kind used here!
The batteries at this point were sitting at around the 8.5V mark!
Synth-maestro Morton Subotnick on tour in Europe
Electronic music pioneer Morton Subotnick performs at Berlin’s 11th Transmediale, a festival of Experimental sound and visuals.
Subotnick combines the famed Buchla synthesizer, which he helped develop in the 60s, with Ableton Live, to reach what he says is, “a performance that is made of gestures, and that is completely immediate.”
The American Morton Subotnick is one of the great pioneers of synthesizer music. His most famous piece Silver Apples From The Moon is a classic of the new electronic music. In Bremen, accompanied Tony Martin, who experimented since the 60s with abstract images projected light from the concert with his projections. In the opening act of the Belgian Jurgen de Blonde with his project Koehn is heard.

I Dream of Wires: The Modular Synthesizer Documentary
This is a nice initiative well worth supporting. Formally known as: MODULAR: The Documentary, the film is currently in production, directed by Robert Fantinatto, original score by SOLVENT. This is the extended promo video and features some of the east coast participants such as Morton Subotnick, Sean McBride (Martial Canterel) and Jason Amm (Solvent). The film is still in production with a west coast shooting block coming up, along with European locations.

Solvent Monotribe thru Modular Mayhem

Hello my name is Solvent and I like to process to machines through other machines. Here I am processing a Korg Monotribe through a couple of Eurorack modules: the WMD Geiger Counter, and the Pittsburg Modular Analog Delay. The Monotribe is also clocking a Make Noise Brains + 2x Pressure Points sequencer setup – this is triggering a Make Noise MATHS AD envelope, which is modulating the PMAD’s delay time via the Rate CV In. Occasionally I press a Pressure Point, which freezes the sequence, allowing the delay time to run freely. At one point, I plug one of the PP’s sequencer rows into the WMD-GC’s Wave Table CV In.

Lot’s of nice noises and voices
Nice performance on the BugBrand modular – Floating Steel
Incredible evolving timbre as this hypnotic patch plays out. Audio is 100% BugBrand Modular – nothing else. The key to the sound is subtle shifting ring modulation along w/ the wonderful BugBrand PT Delay module! Sequence is rotating through 2x 4 note banks w/clock division controlling the switch to alter the note placement 
Background info on the BugBrand:
The design approach for this system really stemmed from my personal building and playing, both in terms of how to work with the circuitry and all the production aspects. The aim is for a powerful, yet relatively compact sonic system and for a creative flow through functionality, control and presentation.
The system is also colourful! Not only do the great feeling banana plugs help with the workflow of dividing signal chains, but the colour coded knobs also really aid intuitive use and interaction. Even the panel material is a lush deep blue, making use of 3mm PCB material, screen-printed with white lettering, to provide great looks and strength.
Bugs is offering two system types. They’re identical other than Type1 has 3xSYN2A Utility VCO while Type2 has one SYN2A replaced by a PRC5 Wavefolder.
