Tutorial on Spectrum Reaktor Synth

November 5, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · 2 Comments

Here’s a tutorial made by Don Garbutt on his Reaktor Spektrum Synth. First the wavetable sound section is examined. This section came from the Reaktor Library instrument “Oki Computer 2.1”. It is similar to the PPG and Waldorf instruments, in that multiple waveforms are placed in a list and the list position is controlled and morphed by various mechanisms such as step-sequencer, envelope generators, low frequency oscillators, automation and MIDI controllers.

Looks interesting but I havn’t been able to find this ensemble in the Reaktor User Library or anywhere on the net.

Please check out Dons really cool fractal based videos. I guess the sound track is Reaktor based…

Spektrumsynth built with Reaktor

November 5, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Spektrumsynth built with Reaktor

Spektrumsynth is an impressive instrument built in Reaktor

This instrumental piece is an exploration of the sound flexibility of the Spektrumsynth, an instrument that I built using Reaktor software. See the Spektrumsynth video and Spektrumsynth Tutorial video for a more detailed description of the instrument. I have made a couple of modifications since the making of these original videosl, if you look closely: I packed the LFOs into a pull-down menu, saving on display space by only showing one at a time, although they are all functioning simultaneously. I was able to add some modules that were available on the earlier version, but hidden on the “B” display pane. I hope that you like the music.

The Mouth from Native is here

November 3, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on The Mouth from Native is here

Native Instruments has introduced The Mouth, a new Reaktor effect that can create melodies and sounds based on an audio signal:

Sing, beatbox or send a drum loop into it and The Mouth comes to life as a tweakable synthesizer, bass, vocoder or talkbox-like effect. A playful interface provides you with plenty of room to shape your results as you go.

NI’s The Mouth can be used stand-alone or as a plug-in. It retails for .
The Mouth for Reaktor and Reaktor Player is available to purchase for $79/69 EUR.

Preview below. See the NI site for more details.

Features:

  • 118 synthesizer & multi effects.
  • 4 generators: Input (with a choice of the raw input audio, or a ‘tuned’ version), Synth, Bass and Vocoder.
  • Each generator comes with numerous different sounds easily selectable via a preset matrix in the interface.
  • 5 faders in a simple mixer section, which also includes a master FX section for coloring the final mix.
  • 8 Performance Control knobs alter both sound and amplitude envelopes at once, for easily shaping the character of the sound, and adding additional harmonies.
  • ‘Beats Mode’ will process incoming drum patterns into interesting arpeggiated melodies.

Use Kaossilator as midi controller

October 5, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Use Kaossilator as midi controller

The Korg Kaossilator has no midi output which limits it use severely. But using a audio to midi program it’s possible. Here’s a how-to video. Reaktor is needed however….

Experimenting with accelerometers in music

October 3, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Experimenting with accelerometers in music

This is a test of a 2-Axis accelerometer for use with a new musical interface I am co-designing with Shih-Yu Hwang. The sensor is connected to an Arduino which is transmitting serial data to Processing. Processing converts the serial to OSC which is being sent to Reaktor. The sensor circuit is in need of some decent signal conditioning, but glad to get this working!

numbxsaidrum performed with the PICnome128 v1.1(ns model), Reaktor and Max/MSP. Their Reaktor is syncronized with OSC(Open Sound Control). So I named their live system “Double OSC Syncronized Live System”.

Multi-effects unit for Reaktor

September 14, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Multi-effects unit for Reaktor

TWISTED TOOLS have released a brand new mutli-effects unit for Native Instruments’ Reaktor 5, complete with a 346mb sample library by notable producers such as Richard Devine, D’arcangelo, Mike Huckaby and more.

Buffeater is a real-time, dynamically ordered, granular multi-effect for all versions of Reaktor 5. The effect works by capturing live audio and storing it in a temporary buffer, which allows for real-time processing of the incoming audio using granular synthesis and other methods. In plain terms, Buffeater allows you take live audio and tweak elements of the sound such as time and pitch, while controlling he signal flow of the effects by the order in which you play. With Buffeater, you can easily achieve stutters, glitch, beat repeat/juggling and/or chopped and screwed effects.

The six effects in included are:

Stretch : A granular time and pitch stretching effect. You can use this effect to slow down (stretch) your audio and even freeze it, while still maintaing control over the audio’s pitch.

Tape : A varispeed type effect that allows you to slow down/speed up effect while also altering its pitch. This is similar to the effect you get when speeding up or slowing down a tape.

Slice Repeat: Allows you to repeat fragments of incoming audio and even re-order them on the fly. You can also adjust the speed and direction of the playback of the slices.

Deconstruct: Takes slices of incoming audio and randomly rearranges them in time and can also reverse them. This effect is similar to Slice Repeat, except that it is more random and also features a ‘slide’ setting that causes audio to glide between slices.

Scratch: Classic turntable style scratch effects, similar to what a DJ does with vinyl or cdjs. This allows you to play with time rhythmically with results that sound like ‘scratching’.

Feed Grains: Feed Grains is a granular feedback effect, that is great for creating spatial effects similar to reverb and also to create similar effects to ring modulation. This is a unique effect that really has no comparison that we know of. Try it and experiment.

Buffeater Features:
* 6 realtime granular and buffer effects
* Playable via MIDI
* Advanced internal automation system
* Independent automation speed and length per knob
* Effect signal flow is dynamically re-ordered as you play
* 288 FX Presets and 60 Snapshots (Combos)
* Kore and Maschine Templates
* Time-stretching sample playback system
* 346mb Sample Library
* Sounds by: c2, Richard Devine, EVAC, Glitchmachines, Josh Hinden, Mike Huckaby, Haptic, Komposit, Rena Jones and Tembu (Bay Dawgz)
* Video Tutorial
* Documentation

Price: $49.00

Get to know Prism

September 8, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Get to know Prism

This introduction provides an overlook of this new Reaktor instrument. It also gives a short glimpse into the basic principles of modal synthesis, its underlying structure.

Prism produces a sound that can be dramatically modified via internal or external sources. The result is a wide-ranging synth, equally powerful for hard basses and digital leads as organic soundscapes, percussive keys, flutes and bells.
