String Machine inspired by Solina for Reaktor
String machines has been the poor cousin to the proper synthesizers since the late 70s when poly synthesizers emerged. Thirty years later and thousands of softsynths later the charm of having a one-trick pony instrument with alot of character start to make sense again.
Probably the most sought after string machines and also one of the first is probably the Solina by Eminent/ARP. Eminent was the company inventing the ensemble chorus to start with.
ZooTooK has now released a Reaktor ensemble named String Machine MkII inspired by the Solina string machine. The appearance is of the Mk4 but the sound is more similar to Mk1 or 2. To be able to reproduce the raspy wave shaped tones of the divide down oscillators at the highest octave the sample rate is set to 176kHz. As a consequence using the effect both pedals in stereo mode makes this ensemble a real CPU hog. So if you are strapped of horse powers use only one pedal in mono mode.
To imitate the organic vintage sound the Analog Legacy algorithms were used.

New emulation of the Doepfer MS-404 by Eisenberg Audio

Eisenberg Audio, a German audio software developer, has released a new software synthesizer VIER. VIER, which means ‘four’ in German, emulates the Doepfer MS-404, a famous monophonic analogue synthesizer from the 1990s. Today, the now vintage MS-404 is not only known to synthesizer insiders, but enjoys a large fan base of musicians.
The Doepfer MS-404 was a single rack device, and VIER combines four independent rack modules in one seamless interface. VIER uses modern technologies for its synthesis engine, such as anti-aliasing oscillators, which are capable of audio range modulation and zero-delay feedback filters best known from synthesizers like LuSH, Monark or Diva.
VIER offers a wide range of options for parameter linking and cross modulation as well as intelligent voice management. Thus, VIER is much more than an emulation of a vintage synthesizer, and much more than the sum of four parts.
The parameter linking allows the building of groups, which can be manipulated and modulated by macro parameters together, offering fast access to the most important sound properties, and operates the four modules as one unit. VIER also contains a broad variety of factory presets that may be loaded, adjusted, saved, or marked as favorites. Additionally, users may create, save and load their own presets.
The intelligent voice management offers different creative modes, in which each note of a chord can be assigned to the four different modules and operated with unlimited polyphony. The results are truly unique and inspiring.

The X/Y Touch pad has several functions, such as a Kaossilator-style “Touch Scale,” which plays a scale when the player slides a finger across the pad. It can also control effects and modulation sources. Effects such as compression and overdrive are provided for each part, allowing each of the sixteen available parts to have their own sonic signature. Groove templates can also be specified for each part. Live performance is more intuitive than ever, due to the “Pattern Set” function which allows the player to instantly switch patterns by pressing the Trigger pads.

New Order signs up with Mute for their upcoming album

Mute welcomes Zola Jesus to their tribe
Nika is the sole singer and songwriter behind Zola Jesus’ many creative incarnations. Written on Vashon Island, WA and co-produced in Los Angeles, CA by Dean Hurley, Taiga follows the widely celebrated albums, Versions (2013) and Conatus (2011). This is Nika’s fourth full-length album release and the first single from the forthcoming 11-track album is ‘Dangerous Days’.
In regards to the album title, Nika explains, “Taiga is the Russian name for the boreal forest. For me it feels very alive… very expansive. It represents a feral, untapped world that could happily exist without us. There are taiga forests in Northern Wisconsin where I was raised, and also in Russia where my ancestors are from, so it also feels very native.”
Liberated in the present and connected to the past, this album is a transition for Zola Jesus. Masterful layers of composition are bathed in familiar atmospheric vocals, but a new sensibility is deeply present. Taiga is at once challenging and accessible, and is undeniably branded with what Nika terms a “piercing ambition.” Such encompassing purpose, she explains, would be impossible without a newfound sense of artistic self. The album is a declaration of that purpose; one faced with jarring clarity in both its content and production. Nika summates, “For me, it feels like my true debut, because it is the first time I have felt so open and liberated.”

In 2008 the brazilian graphist and director Ebbëto asked me to use the track “Passagen” (from album “Blocks” 1999) to imagine a scene of ANALOG, a 27 min. Black and White sci-fi arthouse film.
It was a great adventure and I’ve always wanted to make a reverse experiment : use parts of ANALOG to illustrate a another song. But the idea was to do it only with a complete different track: replacing a title by another of the same style would have been boring and empty. I made few tests during gigs but when I composed “Human Decision Required” I thought it could be the one.
But I wondered if Ebbëto would be ok to see his film with my modifications and radically different vibes. Fortunately he was totally excited by the project and the final version. So MANY thanks to him for his open mind and kindness. It’s thanks to him if this video of “Human Decision Required” exists.
