TableDrum is the Augmented Audio application that allows you to sync the sound of any real object and trigger a real time response of high quality drum sounds. You can now build your own drumset from practically anything. Drum applications where users tap the screen are things of the past. This is the future! Take it to the streets, show your kitchen table who’s the boss or simply let your stuff feel the rhythm. With the TableDrum application the world is now your virtual drum set. You can sync the sound of basically any real object to your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch and link it to high quality drum samples of your choice. Included in the app is the Classic Rock kit with 8 high quality drum samples. By expanding your sound library with the Ethno & Jazz kit and Electro and Glitch kit you can get access to another 32 high quality sounds to play with.
Some things to get started
Gear up with a couple of pencils and some office supplies, each one with unique acoustic characteristics, to drum on!
Use headphones for best result.
To link a drum to a real physical object
1. Hold down a drum pad until it starts glowing.
2. Release and tap a real physical object several times (4-8) while the light fills the circle.
3. When the linking process is done, the rim of the pad will glow.
The app recognizes sound, so for the app to work at its best, the sounds you link should be different and distinguished. While you are playing, hit the object the same way as when you linked it.
Far out: Audio-Haptic Navigation Environment
This is a demonstration video of AHNE – Audio-Haptic Navigation Environment. It is an audio-haptic user interface that allows the user to locate and manipulate sound objects in 3d space with the help of audio-haptic feedback.
The user is tracked with a Kinect sensor using the OpenNI framework and OSCeleton (github.com/Sensebloom/OSCeleton). The user wears a glove that is embedded with sensors and a small vibration motor for the haptic feedback.
This is just the first proof-of-concept demo.

Kinect 3D sensor studies
Johannes Kreidler, a musician and artist known for inventive experiments in music, shares his studies for the Kinect, which he terms “conceptual music.” A solo “for violin” can involve literally waving a violin around. “House music” can mean making music whilst ironing a shirt. Any gesture in space becomes musical. Without tangible feedback, that can be challenging, and since these are just gestures in air, precision and nuance may not be a strong suit.

Experiments in balloon motion and sound using an MS Kinect depth sensing camera.
Created for the Carnegie Mellon 1st & 2nd year MFA Graduate show entitled “Fresh Baked Goods” at Bakery Square, April 2011.
A machine stands in a room surrounded by balloons. Circulating fans blow the balloons over the machine which creates sound based on their movements.
Nemore – sound installation
“Nemore” is a garden, consiting of 36 bendable graphite poles. “Nemore” senses the visitor. Each pole has a behavior and reacts to it’s neighbours only: and to the visitor, of course – the visitor acts an “alien neighbour”. We are interested in the question: Does a system arise from the poles behaviour, that we (the observers and the visitor) perceive as angst, curiosity, nervousness, etc.? Each pole has a distinct sound, that builds up a chord, fluctuating in resonance with the movement of the poles.

The Syntheshredder
What is The Syntheshredder?
The Syntheshredder is an interactive installation utilizing live sound and performance. It’s a 20ft diameter skate bowl that will house sensors embedded under the surface. These will then be routed to a series of hardware instruments as well as custom software that will effectively turn the ramp into a versatile musical instrument. By transforming the skater into the musician, the Syntheshredder will have the potential to generate sounds and layered compositions that I believe will be quite powerful and compelling. Along with several musicians and artists, we will produce several tracks which will be pressed onto a limited edition run of 12″ vinyl records.

Audio d-touch is a collection of applications for real-time musical composition and performance, with very special user interfaces. The collection includes a drum machine and a sampling sequencer, both are controlled by spatially arranging physical objects on an interactive table surface. Each object represents a sound, and its position with respect to the surface is mapped to certain playback parameters. For example, the horizontal position of an object represents the timing of the sound. The system is extremely low cost and now it can be freely and fully downloaded from http://www.d-touch.org/audio. All is needed to get audio d-touch to work is a standard computer (PC or Mac) with a webcam and a printer.

Abstract opera performed by micro-organisms
In Microscopic Opera is and abstract opera performed by the micro-organism C. elegans. A tiny worm of less than a mm in length, and the workhorse for genomics research.
The completely powerless worms are monitored by scientist from their first cell division to their death and have gone trough thousands of generations of manmade mutations and alterations.
In this piece I give them a little influence in the macroscopic world outside their petridish.
Each petridish contains different strains of C.elegans, that each move in a different way. All petridishes are filmed with a usb microscope and shown live on one of the five screens. Special software translates the movements of the worms into sound in real time. (5 channel)
