Watching Eric Persing demo his products like Omnisphere it’s easy to see he loves synthesizers. He’s also probably a good reason why you love synthesizers as he’s the creator of many of the classic Roland factory sounds.

A Good Engineer [interview w/ Todd Bailey]
An interview with Todd Bailey for the Art21 blog. He’s built an open-source, retro-tinged 8-bit sampler, “Where’s the Party At?” (I’m been building the second generation now, so expect a review by early August.) He’s had electronic instrument designs on shelves at the retail chain Target and on the walls of the Whitney Art Museum in New York.
Within the underground, DIY and circuit bending communities of Chicago, NYC and elsewhere Todd Bailey is the name associated with the 8bit sampler/kit WTPA (Where’s The Party At) and other unique home-brew electronics. For the last decade, Bailey’s activities have also found their way onto the shelves of toy stores like Target and the walls of museums like the Whitney.

The man primarily behind such Celemony innovations as Melodyne, DNA Direct Note Access and Capstan is Peter Neubäcker — a passionate musician, researcher and inventor, who sets unusual goals for himself and manages even on occasion to realize in practice things that in theory can’t be achieved. It was the question “What does a stone sound like?” that led Peter Neubäcker to the invention of Melodyne around 15 years ago.
In this interview with Maximilian Schönherr, he airs some of the secrets of Melodyne and offers insights into his thoughts and personal history. He talks about his passion for philosophy, music and mathematics as well as how guitar-making, Johannes Kepler and the science of Harmonics have influenced him. From the conversation, a fascinating 30-minute film portrait has emerged that not only shows one of the most resourceful and multi-facetted personalities in the audio industry but also the background to Celemony innovations.

Artist Interview: Felix Cartal (Reason fan BTW)
Felix Cartal spent his early years as a musical pinch hitter… filling in for local Vancouver rock bands whenever they suddenly needed a member. After taking a class on MIDI production in high school, however, Cartal realized both the advantages of being a solo artist and the power of producing with Reason. His sound still borrows heavily from his punk rock origins, using synths to convey the heaviness and aggression normally coming from guitar amps.
After successful releases on Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Records and tours with MSTRKRFT, Felix Cartal is still driven by his band roots both in sound and production philosophy.

Miller founded probably the most successful indie label of all time, and after a period with EMI, is back as an independent. Richie Hawtin interviews the man who signed him to Novamute as Plastikman. In the interview you’ll get to learn some more on the very early career of Miller, a student who protested more than he actually attended classes etc. Also included is Miller’s aversion to presets and musicians not sampling their own drums. And although Hawtin isn’t exactly the best interviewer around, his natural, honest way of treating the different subjects makes it a very interesting listen/watch with the private inside kitchen details as an extra.

The English trio Depeche Mode forged synth-pop in the 1980s, then scored massive hits in the 1990s with songs like “Personal Jesus” and “Enjoy the Silence.” Now, the group has enlisted a crew of wiz to rework its back catalog the collection “Remixes 2: 81-11.” Jacqueline Cincotta sits in for John Schaefer and speaks with frontman Dave Gahan to talk about the album, the band and his career. Artist Interview: Semothy Jones (Lily Allen, Professor Green)
The Propellerhead guys has released this interview with Semothy Jones. Semothy Jones was 8 years old when he heard a record that showed him the meaning of life: producing music. Admittedly unable to sing or rap, young Semothy faced a somewhat existential crisis: “I make beats, what am I?”
The answer soon revealed itself to him when his beats were sought out by UK artists like Little Boots and Professor Green. When Green and Jones decided to do a remake of the 90s hit “Dub Be Good to Me,” they had no idea that pop-royalty Lily Allen would jump on the chorus and take the album to number 2 on the charts.
Since being introduced to Reason in 2002, every Semothy Jones production starts and ends inside the Reason rack.
