Nice demo of the suONio

“Alessandro Cortini who played Buchla in NIN and Scott The Harvestman maker of interesting synth modules in Seattle joined forces to make a modular patchable 2×16 sample playback machine out of alessandro’s new album and released 200 of these crazy machines into the world. Here’s my experience with one.”

New Moon Modular Sequencer 568

November 1, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on New Moon Modular Sequencer 568

568 is the new sequencer – as you can see it is 32 steps per row. looks like they really care about putting more features on top of the existing sequencers to date. in fact not even close to “cheap” but if it feels the same as the prvious models it must be a pleasue playing it. Mond News

Telemark and the Oberkorn sequencer

October 26, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · 2 Comments

Analogue Solutions continues to treat us with nice demos, here’s one on how to connect a Tele-Mark Semi-modular synth to the sequencer:

HOW TO: Connect an Analogue Solutions Telemark Semi-Modular synthesizer (www.analoguesolutions.com) to an AS Oberkorn Analogue Sequencer.

This video covers basic connections from the Oberkorn sequencer to the Telemark synth (connecting: pitch x 2, filter, and EG/Trigger).

Another great feature of the Telemark is the integrated MIDI control, which can be used to transpose live sequences as they play back from the Oberkorn (shown in the video). This means that you can sequence the transposition via MIDI in your DAW of choice – control those analogue basslines!

Synths in video: Telemark, Station X/Y, TBX-303 [Analogue Solutions]

Speak & Spell

The artist Richard Devine makes his modular synthesizer speak in an alien tongue, with the help of the The Harvestman’s Piston Honda Oscillator.

Checking out some new Roms for the Piston Honda tonight. Making the Piston Honda sound like a broken Speak & Spell.

Dr. Who returns

October 18, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Dr. Who returns

Inspired by the old-school sound design antics of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Ian Boddy’s Radiophonica takes us back to a time when Dr Who still had some semblance of geek chic and the ring modulator ruled the sci-fi roost.

Radiophonica is the first title in Ian Boddy’s ‘Waveforms’ series of sample libraries. All the sounds were produced and recorded directly from analogue hardware synthesisers such as the venerable EMS VCS3 and MiniMoog and also the Roland 100M, Doepfer, Analogue Solutions and Analogue Systems modular synths.

Radiophonica is $40 at the Hollow Sun site.

Preview of a new copper mod synth

Parasitik’s Coppersynth, October 2010

Here’s a shot of a custom copper-faced modular synth, via Parasitik.

Here’s what he has to say about the new synth:

I’m still wiring up the panels, but it’s almost completed. I need to order the fancy dials for the 10-turn pots on the Living VCOs, but they’re really expensive, so that may not happen soon. I’m also missing a couple small components that I’m ordering tonight.

Overall though, I’m really happy with the way it’s turning out.

New virtual recreation of the Bode Frequency Shifter

October 2, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on New virtual recreation of the Bode Frequency Shifter

WOK has announced the release of BFS-1, a virtual recreation of the Bode Frequency Shifter. The original unit was available as an expensive module for the Moog modular system.

Wok’s frequency shifter is not a pitch shifter, which changes frequencies by a multiplication. Instead it shifts all frequencies/harmonics by adding a fixed amount.  Unlike a ring modulator, the frequency shifter is capable of changing the signal by a low amount, e.g. 1 Hz, to obtain effects known as “Barberpole flanging”.

This plugin has some additional features like delays for each section, an LFO (all host synced), an envelope with MIDI trigger and an envelope follower to modulate shift and/or volume.

BFS-1 is available now, as a Windows VST, for 33 EUR.
