Universal Audio has announced the release of UAD Software v8.4, featuring four exclusive new plug-ins for UAD hardware and Apollo interfaces: the Eventide H910 Harmonizer, Marshall Bluesbreaker 1962 and Silver Jubilee 2555 amplifiers, and UA’s own Oxide Tape Recorder.
Eventide H910 Harmonizer Plug-In — $249
Developed for Universal Audio by Eventide, the Eventide H910 Harmonizer® plug-in is the first and only end-to-end circuit emulation of the iconic mid-’70s processor. From sci-fi sound design to pop music landmarks from David Bowie and AC/DC, the H910’s unique analog/digital circuit generated previously unheard combinations of pitch change, delay, harmonization, and modulation effects.
In developing this landmark processor exclusively for UAD-2 and Apollo hardware, Eventide modeled the H910’s entire analog/digital circuit, including its custom-built A/D converter. This allows the H910 Harmonizer plug-in to retain the original hardware’s characteristic tone and dynamics.

All Marshall plug-ins include UA’s Unison technology; Apollo user’s guitar pickups will see the exact impedance load as if they’re plugged into a vintage Marshall Bluesbreaker — a feature found only on Apollo audio interfaces.

Users with programming experience will be able create their own custom software for Obscura using the Arduino IDE. (Obscura is based on the Arduino Leonardo platform.) Arduino pins 5, 8, 9, 10, 12, and 13 are broken out for hardware hacking and experimentation.
The Obscura is being developed as a Kickstarter project. The synth is available to project backers starting at US $95.

DreamsOfWires – Laplace Resonator Synth (iPad)

Someone asked me what apps I have/like/use, so I thought I’d do some videos featuring them in the future. Besides, I’m broke and having to sell some of my hardware instruments, so it’ll probably do me good to investigate bankrupt-proof music making possibilities. Among the many apps I’ve been impressed with is Laplace. This video does nothing to demonstrate the kind of resonant sounds that the app does best, but I was just messing around with it and this fell out. So I recorded it. No additional effects or post-processing was used, just its arpeggiator, built-in reverb and delay. The patch was made by me, starting from a new, empty patch.
The video is of the Imperial War museum at Duxford (UK). Sorry about the wonky horizons, it weren’t my fault, the world kept moving.

You can hear how wonderfully Roland emulated that noise chorus from the Juno 106.
I’m very happy with the way these these sound. Do they successfully emulate the vintage analog synths 100%? No. They don’t. But they capture the vibe and spirit of what makes their vintage parents so amazing, and at the price they really can’t be beat.
