Moog Music today announced the new MF-401 Auto De-tune, a new rackmount audio effect that promises to add natural imperfections to even the most heavily AutoTuned vocals:

Introducing Moog Music’s MF-401 Auto De-tune, featuring Authentic Vocal Imperfection technology, even a T-Pain vocal can be restored to its complete original character, scrubbing the pitch correction and leaving the untreated vocal in all its wavering sharp or flat glory. Results may vary, and Moog Music in no way bears responsibility for discomfort or irritation caused by the use of the MF-401.

Presets include:

  • •Drunk as a Sailor
  • •Seattle sensitive alternative warble
  • •Where did all the green room beer go?
  • •Original Star Trek cast member attempts to make pop music
  • •My vocal monitor is blown, so Soundman, please mix me REALLY low
  • •Mrs. Miller
  • •Too punk rock to turn down your !#$%&*!! stage volume
  • •Cat in an alley under a full moon
  • •Tone Def
  • •Florence Foster Jenkins

According to Moog, each preset can be adjusted to taste or lack thereof with the Warble rate, Deviation range, Emotive Overload, and Caterwaul rotary controls, allowing a virtually infinite variety and depth of vocal expression and variation.

Audio issues at Victoria's secret

This article dives into the issues when cameras and audio equipment needs to play well together, Not just beautiful ladies I guess :-)

With hostess Heidi Klum leading a glittering parade of supermodels down the runway inside New York’s Lexington Avenue Armory, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show certainly revealed a sumptuous feast for the eyes. The mid-November videotaping for CBS was also a party for the ears, with a pulsating soundtrack mixed by renowned DJ Jeremy Healy and live performances by the Black Eyed Peas all potently reproduced by a camera-friendly phalanx of 128 Meyer Sound loudspeakers.

For sound designer Erich Bechtel of ADI:Audible Difference Inc., now in his tenth year working the annual spectacle, the assignment was clear-cut. “The production company wanted the system to steer clear of all camera sightlines and yet still sound good and loud,” says Bechtel.

It was a task more easily stated than accomplished. To stay out of camera shots, minimum array trim height was set at 47 feet. Subwoofers could not be hung due to weight restrictions, and the deep-thrust V-shaped stage split the audience into opposing sections. Finally, the armory’s vast size (about 180 by 190 feet) with high ceilings generated distressingly long reverberation times.

Room correction system for ProTools

August 18, 2009 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on Room correction system for ProTools

IK Multimedia has announced the release of ARC System TDM, an advanced room correction system for Pro Tools|HD Accel.

IK Multimedia ARC System TDM

The ARC System is the first (and only) acoustic room correction plug-in, and delivers the most advanced solution to acoustical problems for any Digidesign® Pro Tools® TDM-based studio. Combining a professional calibrated measurement microphone, standalone software that captures sound information and calculates proper room correction, and a multi-platform plug-in, this technology will improve how your studio sounds forever.

ARC features the revolutionary Audyssey MultEQ® technology, which measures acoustical information throughout the listening area in your studio. It then combines this information to provide an accurate representation of the room’s acoustical problems. The equalization solution then corrects for both time and frequency response problems more effectively and efficiently than any other room correction EQ on the market. The result is a clear and reliable representation of your mix. Regardless of the acoustical issues in your studio, what you are recording, mixing or mastering becomes immediately clear and reliable and your studio sound will improve forever.

The audible results will be:

  • Low-end alterations, typically added by small rooms, are removed with better low frequency control
  • More consistent frequency response across the entire range
  • Tonal balance is restored, allowing for more accurate mixes
And the following advantages will be achieved:
  • Room defects will no longer capture your attention, allowing you to focus solely on the music and reducing your ears fatigue
  • Work on mixes faster because you’re sure of what you’re hearing
  • Achieve greater consistency on your music productions
  • Produce mixes that better translate to the outside world

ARC System is also the most convenient, unique, mobile correction solution for the Pro Tools traveling engineer.  Now you can sonically ‘treat’ your room everywhere you go, so you can finally trust the sound of your monitoring environment and record, mix or master comfortably in a listening environment that you will always be familiar with.

Music Messe 08: Melodyne Direct Note Access

March 13, 2008 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on Music Messe 08: Melodyne Direct Note Access

Can´t wait to buy it :-)

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFCjv4_jqAY]

Direct Note Access is a technology that makes the impossible possible: for the first time in audio recording history you can identify and edit individual notes within polyphonic audio material. The unique access that Melodyne affords to pitch, timing, note lengths and other parameters of melodic notes will now also be afforded to individual notes within chords.

Take a stereo (or mono) track of polyphonic audio – piano, string quartet or whatever and then through some kind of wizardry, explode this into the separate individual notes and edit to taste as you would with monophonic audio within Melodyne.
