The Trautonium is an electronic instrument, created in the late 1920′s by Friedrich Trautwein in Berlin. It was developed, with the help of Oskar Sala, throughout the 20th century.
The Trautonium allows for expressive playing, with continuous control over both pitch and volume.

Golden Ensembles 3 – new massive collection of 44 ensembles for the Reaktor
Musicrow has announced Golden Ensembles 3, a collection of 44 ensembles for the Reaktor 5 software synthesizer by Native Instruments.
Golden Ensembles 3 now includes the two mega-synths, Ebola and Cobra, the new Bass Lab bass machine, and many other impressive synthesizers and instruments. In addition, it contains classic processor emulations like Crow Tape Echo and Plate Reverb, and unique sound design tools such as the new Sound Pilot, Executer, and White FX. Everything is packed, with hundreds of presets ready to be used.
Changes in Golden Ensembles 3
- Sound Pilot, a new breed of audio tool that blurs the difference between a sound processor and a sound generator. It is not an effect. It is not a synthesizer. It’s both: a sound processor that produces synthesized effects.
- Bass Lab 2, a dedicated bass synthesizer that uses powerful oscillators, super fast envelopes, a transient shaper, a bass booster, extended distortion section and other special features -for the creation of a vast range of fat and punchy electronic bass sounds.
- Analogica filter offers high quality analog filter emulation, with a distinctive warm character. It combines a very intuitive interface, with many useful extra features and modulation options.
- Phase Lab, a special tool for phase correction and comb filtering elimination. It is also a great creative tool for sound shaping, where you can radically change the tonal color of your sound by changing its phase settings (Instead of using an equalizer).
- Green Master Tape, a new 1/4 inch tape machine emulator that brings the typical characteristics of analog tapes to your digital studio.
- Other ensembles were deeply revised with new features, sonic improvements, a new GUI and many new presets and sounds.
Golden Ensembles 3 is available to purchase for the introductory price of 99 EUR through April 2012 (regular 169 EUR). Users of previous versions can upgrade to Golden Ensembles 3 for 49 EUR.
Drawbar 350 – homage to the original Stylophone 350S
Rhythmic Robot has released Drawbar 350, a unique analogue drawbar organ instrument created from the overheated transistors of the enormous Stylophone 350S.
Drawbar 350 is both a homage to the original Stylophone 350S and a departure from it. You can imitate the original 350 perfectly by simply treating the drawbars as on / off switches – either fully out of fully in – and leaving the envelope controls set to minimum. (And why not? It’s a classic, after all!) Or you can go to town and create washes, pads, soundscapes and textures. Or you can turn the whole thing up to 11 for a really aggressive, Punk 70s sound that all but leaps out of the speakers and strangles you.
The Drawbar 350 is without doubt a snarling, spitting, angry character at heart, full of attitude and malice. But we’ve given you the tools to tame it and bend it to your will. It’s a sound that you simply won’t find anywhere else: original and dangerous. Welcome to the world of the Drawbar 350.

Grendel Drone Commander Listening Test
A listening test – more or less, function per function – on the mighty Grendel Drone Commander.
With a total of 9 knobs, the Drone Commander offers two manually-tuned oscillators and two LFOs, plus an unusually colorful and nasty filter. LFO1 is an analog variable-shape oscillator, and LFO2 is a pulse waveform that auto-synchronizes to LFO1 at a ratio of 2x, 4x, 8x, or 16x. Both LFOs can be routed to the filter for rhythmic patterns. A line-level output jack is provided for connection to amplifiers or effects.
The sound samples on this page are recorded with one Drone Commander plugged straight into a Fender Princeton Chorus.
Six of the Drone Commander’s nine knobs double as push-pull switches to control signal routing and waveform selection. Scroll to the bottom of this page to view the control layout.

Introducing Futulele – new Ukulele app for the iPad and the iPhone
FUTULELE is an upcoming Ukulele synthesizer for iOS. Although it can work on a single iPad, similar to our well-known guitar synth OMGuitar (http://amidio.com/omguitar), Futulele really shines with a special guitar-shaped case that holds both an iPad and an iPhone, which are connected to each other via Bluetooth. iPhone is used to define the chords and iPad is used for strumming.
We have managed to reduce the chord switch lag to a minimum level and capture every little nuance of a high-grade professional Ukulele instrument. You can use up to 12 chords for each song, and change chord sets on the fly. Full recording and sharing possibilities come straight from OMGuitar, as well as the effects section.

For the curious:
* Circles grow at a constant rate.
* No two circle can overlap.
* Bigger circle pushes and shrinks smaller circle when in contact.
* A circle “pops” and makes a sound when its boundary intersects with the center of another circle.
* The pitch of the sound is determined by the position of the circle on the background. Bigger the hole, higher the pitch.
* The envelope of the produced sound is determined by a number of parameters including final circle size and time of interaction between two involved circles.

“I wanted to do a track with polyphonic playing, poly vibrato (!), etc and this well-known (ahem!) piece seemed like a good fit for that… An imperfect performance but really fun to play! Check out the part near the end (2:05 & 2:15) when I get to bring out the other synth line just with poly pressure–Way cool!
Don’t judge the sound of this incredible instrument by my camera’s cheesy mic… It is gorgeous in person (or in a decent recording.)

Typewriter – new sampled instrument for Kontakt
Rhythmic Robot has released Typewriter, a sampled instrument for Kontakt.
Typewriter is a sampled version of a 1920s Imperial wide-carriage typewriter. It includes a pool of randomly-selected keystrikes, plus a host of carriage-return, bell, platen wind, spool wind, shift, tab and other mechanical noises. Keystrikes can be “played” with one hand from a MIDI keyboard’s white notes while shift, tab, carriage return and so on can be added at will via the black notes.
Typewriter is ideal for special effects, stutter-type glitches, foley effects or sound design. It is being released in time for Valentine’s Day so users can “write love letters straight from their heart… in style”.
