John Foxx releases new double disc set (CD & DVD) 'D.N.A.'

Out now is “D.N.A”, a new double disc set (CD & DVD) which features unique collaborations between John Foxx and some of his favourite film-makers, with all of the short movies on the DVD being made especially for this project. The CD features the music from some of the films, plus tracks that Foxx had recorded as ‘possibilities’ for soundtracks.

The final track on the disc, “Over the Mirage” is a new collaboration between John Foxx, Harold Budd and Ruben Garcia, while both parts (“2” & “7”) of “A Secret Life” and “Violet Bloom” were recorded with Steve D’Agostino.

Ex-Japan percussionist Steve Jansen also features on the “A Secret Life” instrumentals. The artwork for the project has been designed by Jonathan Barnbook, who has previously worked with Damien Hirst and David Bowie.

For the first time since the “Live Aid” show in 1985, the classic line-up of Midge Ure, Billy Currie, Warren Cann and Chris Cross will get back together for a UK tour with Ultravox in April 2009. They will play a total of 14 shows during the “Return to Eden” tour. This is of course connected to the re-releases of their classic albums.

You can read our review of the new “definitive remastered edition” of “Rage in Eden” here.

And speaking of “Rage in Eden”, Billy Currie will release a new solo album on April 6, and at least one of the tracks is said to be inspired by that album.

I still hoped that John Foxx would join as well :-)

September 22 we will get a new collection by John Foxx from label Demon/Edsel. “Glimmer: The Best of John Foxx” will be a double-CD with material from his entire career including singles, album tracks, re-works of old Ultravox tracks, new remixes and his ambient “Cathedral Oceans” project. That project is also going to be re-released by the same label in 2009 and 2010.

And they don’t stop there, classic synthpop duo Blancmange will have their albums “Happy Families”, “Mange Tout” and “Believe You Me” released in new, fresh versions. The exact date is not set as of now, but it’s clear that they will all include the 12” mixes and some B-sides. The band is also said to be working on new material.

And of course and old Blancmange video:

Here is the last video from the Blancmange Video 45 VHS. This is Living on the Ceiling. Classic synthpop from a band that disappeared but now is back. Check out their stuff on MySpace. I wonder if they have their own website… should check on that.
