Fifty loops created by professional musicians are built-in to help you get started quickly. In addition to its track-making capabilities, this loop sequencer is also a great feature for live performance. The Mix Play feature makes it easy to enjoy live remixing; you can switch seamlessly to another loop or extract a specific part from another loop while the playback continues.
More insight into the iKaossilator for iPhone/iPod Touch
As announced earlier, but here’s a new video demo of the app. Given how perfectly suited the iPhone is to being used as an X/Y pad, a mobile version of Korg’s Kaossilator was always a no-brainer. And so we have the new iKaossilator, which has appeared on the App Store this very day.
The full details are below, but the bottom line is that you can make music with the app just by “stroking, tapping or rubbing” your Apple mobile device’s screen, which also displays visual effects.
There are 150 built-in sounds, scale/key settings and a five-part loop sequencer.
The Korg iKaossilator is available now from the App Store priced at £6.99 (the price will double as of 30 November). There’s no native iPad version at this time.

KORG Kaossilator performing Aerodynamic
If you’re a fan of Daft Punk and the Korg Kaossilator, then you’ll probably like this. This is the first time I’ve ever tried playing the thing with TWO HANDS and a pencil. It’s quite tricky.
Anyway, I know the riff isn’t EXACTLY the same as the original, but that’s only because there isn’t a scale setting on the Kaossilator which can do it in one go (I know, I tried them all).

Circuit Bent Korg Kaossilator KAOSS BOX
Circuit Bent Korg Kaossilator – KAOSS BOX. Complete with a break-out box that contains switches used to circuit bend the memory rom chip thus creating distortion and glitches in the synthesizer playback. Also inside the break out box is an LTC precision oscillator used to speed up and slow down the fixed frequency crystal, this allowing for analog pitch control via a knob. It is also possible to use a Photo-resistor instead of the potentiometer this allowing for theremin like operation of the unit.
The mods are:
Full Kaossilator Bolted onto box
Pitch Down
Switchable Pitch down LDR
LFO with Rate Control Knob and Rainbow LED indicator
Two Types of LFO on three way switch
4x Ring Mods switches
3x Glitch Switches (the unit does need to be switched off/on when your finished with these bends to get everything back to normal)
The Switch in the middle of Glitch switches gives a nice double up thing on the sounds!
1/4″ Jack to hook up to Homemade sequence
I’ve been struggling to come up with a video for this, so I decided to just go for it and do a simple jam to show what the unit can do. It starts of a bit slow but gradually gets better. The glitch bends can do alot more but I think you get the idea. I will do another vid with it hooked up to my sequencer soon.

Use Kaossilator as midi controller
The Korg Kaossilator has no midi output which limits it use severely. But using a audio to midi program it’s possible. Here’s a how-to video. Reaktor is needed however….
Frippertronics style demo of SynthPad
This is a Frippertronics style demo of SynthPad - a new iPhone instrument inspired by the interface of the Korg Kaossilator family of devices.
Instead relying on piano keys to register notes, SynthPad uses a dedicated touch surface to control the sounds. Additionally the Y-Axis on the touch surface can be used to control different parameters, like filter cutoff and LFO values, making it an “expressive little toy.”
Its sound engine is a fully programmable monophonic virtual analog synthesizer. Among its parameters one can find:
- 2 oscillators with different wave shapes
- Fine tuning of the second oscillator
- Volume Envelope
- LFO modulation
- A Low-Pass filter
- Filter Envelope
- Arpeggio
Additionally, the scale and the key on the touchpad surface can also be configured, for live improvisation.
SynthPad is available now in the App Store for $1.99.
