Laibach, Grendel and more @ ElectriXmas

December 16, 2007 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on Laibach, Grendel and more @ ElectriXmas

Well half the Laiback concert was OK – that is the second half when they returned to their old songs rather than performing their new stuff. Their new songs are not catchy enough and they take themselves too seriously – so remain with your back catalogue next time you visit Malmoe. Grendel did an OK impression, although their songs to sound the same when you’ve listened to two or three LOL. Finally I must say OneTwo is a joke and can´t understand what they are doing at a gig like this, apart from their legacy with Alpha Ville – crap.

ElectriXmas was an OK event this year, but lacking one or two of the really big names to round the evening off with, better luck next time. below a couple of snapshots from the event:

New Order – Far toooo old to DJ, LOL

December 12, 2007 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on New Order – Far toooo old to DJ, LOL

This is a video of New Order’s bassist Peter Hook pretending to DJ at Exit Festival 2006, on the MTV Free Your Mind stage. At a first glance it looks like old Hooky is doing a decent, and very enthusiastic, job.

But when the camera zooms in – we get the real close up !!, and the next track mixes in, it’s clear that he isn’t DJing at all.

He’s just fooloing around twiddling with the faders and knobs pretending that he’s in control of the music. Very funny.

Mr. Hook – not even John Digweed or Richie Hawtin can get tracks perfectly beatmatched without touching the decks or CDJs.

Agonize – german EBM

Since Laibach is due for this saturday evening I got inspired to listen to some more EBMish type music and came to think of these guys. Not a favorite act but still some nice heavy tracks.

The German EBM act Agonoize has a new album called Sieben. It’s a double disc album with a total of 19 songs, and there will be 2 versions of it available. As you can guess, the standard version just contains the album’s 2 discs, while the limited “Maximum Permissible Dose” version comes in a box set with a bonus shape-CD containing 3 remixes of their club-friendly track “Femme Fatale” and a few other goodies like a sticker and a photo card.

You can listen to the songs “Femme Fatale” and “I Against Me” on the Agonoize MySpace page. My first impression of the new tracks – it sounds pretty OK

Karlheinz Stockhausen sind tot/dead – Tribute

December 10, 2007 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on Karlheinz Stockhausen sind tot/dead – Tribute

The composer Karlheinz Stockhausen passed away on December 5th 2007 at his home in Kuerten-Kettenberg and will be buried in the Waldfriedhof (forest cemetery) in Kuerten. Everyone who’s listened to Kraftwerk and the like knows what I am talking about…

A small tribute to one of the electro pioneers:

8bitpoeple :-)

8bit_graf.gif

Came across this tremedous 8bit site the other day. Here you will find a veriety of new fresh bitpop tunes. This how the 8bitpeople describe themselves and their mission:

The 8bitpeoples first came together in 1999 as a collective of artists sharing a common love for classic videogames and an approach to music which reflected this obsession. Our primary interests were to provide quality music for free and most importantly to have fun. In the years since, we have grown in rank and expanded our goals.

We continue to provide the vast majority of all our releases for free, including printable covers and inserts so that anyone with the desire to can “manufacture” physical copies of our albums. Furthermore, limited runs of most of our releases are available, offering superior sound quality to the mp3 releases and occasionally bonus tunes.

In addition to our continuing devotion to music, we now have a research & development division dedicated to the creation of software, construction of hardware, and dissemination of documentation related to our cause. Our love for the audio/visual aesthetics of early videogame consoles and homecomputers continues to provide us with the drive to push the medium to its very limits, and then see just how much further we can go after that … you know, just for fun.
