Aidan, besides being a very detailed and well crafted dancefloor killer, started as a gloomy story in winter… It’s the story of transformations from darkness to light, from cold to warm, from schizophrenia to sanity. It’s this trip you will do next time you’ll take a plane and will hear a voice in your head whispering “you are free now”. Enjoy…

Electro Spectre is out with a new single called “You Push for the World

The Norwegian synth-pop act Electro Spectre releases its second single “You Push for the World” on June 10th after signing to Nordic Records. The release is not as genre based compared to the previous release “Your love is a crimial”, it’s less dancy, but darker and with a very catchy chorus. The single includes 2 radio versions and 3 remixes by Mike Maximus, Capa and Mudman who all have a very different take on the original.

The accompanying video was shot by directors Rune Hov and Alexander Bjørneboe, the latter also the singer in Electro Spectre. It’s a mix of old military footage and extreme closeups of the singer. Says Alexander: “The main universe in the video is cut from original footage depicting the life of navy soldiers on a warship during WW2. When you set out to make a music video, it’s always a question of what you want to communicate to the audience: Do you want to please the eye, do you want to surprise, do you want to shake things up?

When we filmed ‘Tokyo Shuffle’, we wanted an exaggerated, cartoonish feeling. This time we wanted something quite different, so we had consider how close to the lyrics we wanted to be. Personally, I tend to prefer to try to capture the same ambience in the video as is reflected in the lyrics, but not necessarily make a video that is a visualization of the song’s words. I want the video to expand the experience, not limit it.

A warship is no doubt a dark subject matter, yet the video is – at least in my opinion – not bleak. The way we edited it, it’s a mix of gravity and comedy. The latter a result of the absurdity of some of the events, and the fact that these men seem to be able to survive almost anything.

I do feel the video really suits the song. We had great fun working this video through, and I hope the audience appreciate it as well.”

“Far Too Many” new track from Mikela Jay

June 11, 2014 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on “Far Too Many” new track from Mikela Jay

Mikela Jay has recently written and recorded a brand new track entitled “Far Too Many” in a production by Fat Benjamin (Andy Callaby) from the UK. The song was created within a week – Andy sent Mikela the raw track and she recorded her vocals. The song has not been mastered, though they have chosen to release it as is into the world. Fans of Massive Attack and related acts will surely love this one.

Says Mikela : “The song is somewhat anthemic, addressing the prevalent amount of violence happening in the news mediaworldwide. Reminiscent of Bjork & Madonna in sound, the song speaks to anyone feeling oppressed by the level of destruction we each may be feeling these days.”

About This Release:

Arne Deforce : Cello.
Mika Vainio : Processing, electronics.
Arne Deforce is renowned for his passionate and unparalleled performances of contemporary and experimental music. As a soloist, his repertoire consists mainly of solo and chamber music with a special interest in works deemed ‘unplayable’ but ‘performable’ from composers such as Iannis Xenakis, Richard Barrett, John Cage and Brian Ferneyhough.
Mika Vainio was one half of the minimal electronic duo Pan Sonic. His solo works, under his own name and under aliases like Ø, are known for their analogue warmth and electronic harshness ranging from abstract drone works or minimal avant techno.
In Greek and Roman Mythology, Hephaestus was the god of fire; celestial blacksmith; craftsmen, artisans, sculptors, metals, metallurgy, fire and volcanoes; son of Zeus and Hera; husband of Aphrodite. The river Phlegethon was one of the five rivers in the infernal regions of the underworld, where Hephaestus operated. Plato describes it as “a stream of fire, which coils round the earth and flows into the depths of Tartarus.  It is said that the goddess Styx was in love with Phlegethon, but she was consumed by his flames and sent to Hades.
On this Editions Mego release, Hephaestus couples the rich acoustics of Deforce’s cello techniques with the raw expressiveness of Vanio’s electronics. The music reflects these ancient symbols whereby each track possesses physical, emotional and psychological states. The journey begins with ‘Phlegethon (stream of fire)’ – a world of sound building in intensity and ferocity as a means of navigating the listener into this other world.  Both Cocytus (river of lamentation) and Acheron (river of woe) explore more introspective (ambient) terrain, harnessing the players ability to conjure discrete congruous textures.  From here we are hurtled into the unbridled fury of ‘Styx (river of rage)’ where the consummation of the individual and eternal agony resides amongst the synergetic logic adopted by the artists and their chosen tools. ‘Lethe (river of forgetfulness) or oblivion’ incorporates small repeating phrases and minimalist motifs which provide a sense of disorientation and dislocation for the traveller/listener whilst a world of respite is laid bare in the comforting yet brooding closing piece ‘Elysium (fields of relief)’.
Hephaestus is a fascinating journey through the netherworld of human extremity presented as a combination of pure acoustic and electronic sources and realised in both physical and psychological manifestations.
Recorded in Vooruit, Ghent. 20-22 december 2011.
Recording engineer :Benjamin Dousselaere.
Editing and mixing: Dousselaere, Vainio, Deforce. -Brussels, October 2013.

ReDominator – synthesizer instrument for Windows and Mac

June 10, 2014 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on ReDominator – synthesizer instrument for Windows and Mac

audiorealism_redominator_thumb

AudioRealism has announced the release of the VST/AU version of ReDominator, a synthesizer instrument for Windows and Mac.

ReDominator is an emulation of the classic Alpha Juno 1/2 (JU-1/2), a polyphonic DCO (digitally controlled oscillator) based synth from 1986.

The JU-1/2 became popular in the early 90′s techno and rave scene particularly by the classic Hoover sound (which ReDominator emulates accurately). But beyond those niche sounds there lays a versatile synthesizer that does bass, pads, leads, organs and a lot of other sounds waiting to be discovered!

ReDominator VST/AU features

  • Accurate emulation of the Alpha Juno 1/2 including the famous Hoover patch.
  • 14 different low aliasing waveforms including a unique PWM-sawtooth.
  • High quality full range 24dB/octave low-pass filter.
  • Unique 8 parameter envelope generator which enables much more complicated and expressive sounds than a standard ADSR.
  • 200+ bundled patches (of which many are sysex converted from our own JU-2).
  • Patch importer which allows importing sysex patches from your own Alpha Juno and play them in ReDominator.
  • Chord Memory function.

ReDominator for Windows and Mac is available for purchase for 55 EUR incl. VAT.
