New modules in the making from littleBits
littleBits has announced three new ‘power user’ modules for users of its Korg Synth Kit and other modules.
The modules add direct support for MIDI, control voltages & USB audio:
- MIDI module – Allows you to control the Synth Kit from a DAW (Ableton Live, Pro Tools, etc) and other MIDI-enabled instruments. Additionally, it will allow you to create your own MIDI controller with littleBits modules by converting littleBits control voltages to MIDI messages.
- CV module – Allows you to Integrate your Synth Kit with other analog synthesizers (for example, modular synths or analog keyboards).
- USB I/O module – This is a USB audio interface that will enable you to record directly into your DAW from the Synth Kit or send audio from your DAW to the Synth Kit for processing. Integrate your Synth Kit with common audio work stations (Ableton, ProTools, or other software like Traktor or Max/MSP).
New release from Christian Löffler – “Young Alaska
Just before the arrival of summer this year, Christian Löffler is set to release his next musical statement and autobiographical journey named “Young Alaska” on Ki Records. The German producer unveils his unique soundscapes by delivering seven tracks which are deeply rooted, once again, in harmony and emotion.
Löffler’s unique sound based on an intense melancholic feel brought him a busy touring schedule performing at clubs and festivals all over the world. He sticks to his calm approach to electronic music and proves, through his live-sets, that emotions control the dance floor, creating a real sense of euphoria.
His experiences on the road are reflected on “Young Alaska,” which is largely inspired by these journeys and places he has visited. From the peaceful landscapes of the title track to the melodramatic heights of “Mt. Grace,” he took “Notes” back home to transfer the impressions into his music. Songs like “Beirut“, “Veiled Grey” and “Alpine Sketch” are very diverse but come together harmoniously on this release.
As on his debut album, he once again collaborates with Danish vocalist Gry and Me Succeeds lead-singer Mohna on “All Comes” and “Beirut.” During the course of “Young Alaska”, Christian tells the story of his journey over the course of the past two years.
PollySynth Demo – multiplayer polyphonic synt
PollySynth, a ‘multiplayer polyphonic synth’ that combines elements of gaming with synthesis, is now available as a public beta. It is designed for browser-based use with mobile devices.
Synthesizer voices are visualized as members of the ‘PollySynth gang’. Players fly these characters around and create audio havoc by loading a website on their mobile and playing with the controls. Spatial audio effects add to the fun as characters zoom by.
AudioThing – Tank Drum Walkthrough
AudioThing has released Tank Drum for Kontakt 5, a new virtual instrument based on samples from a steel tongue drum.
Also called hang drums, these instruments are usually made out of propane tanks with tongues of different sizes and tuned in different scales.
The instrument sampled features 8 tongues and is tuned in E minor pentatonic. It was played both with hands and rubber mallets, along with some sound effects with hands and brushes. The sound has a long release and is rich in harmonics.
