MacPOD Publisher’s Description:
MacPOD uses granular synthesis to generate a wide range of audio effects, including time compression and expansion, from any non-protected soundfiles. Transform speech or instrumental sounds into glorious, rich soundscape textures. A great tool for composers and sound designers!

MacPOD/WinPOD [2009] reprises the original MacPOD, first released in 1998 (and recipient of a Bourges Festival  award).

Features include:

* Ultra-long time-stretching and freezing
* 34 voice real-time granulation of sampled sound creates expansive textures from speech sounds, sound objects or other recordings
* Autostretch preserves speech transients
* Equalizer and resonator section
* Spectrogram and FFT display

MacPOD is named in honour of the original POD GSAMX system developed by Barry Truax at Simon Fraser University.

    Cool demo of the Metasonic R52

    the r-52 uses two pentodes, type 12au6. the circuit is derived directly from our award-winning tm-2 filter, but with all the features of our tm-6 filter. a pair of bandpass filters is swept with a vactrol(tm) control element, a resonant treble filter and a less-resonant bass filter, giving a 4-pole lowpass response. filter sweep range (approx): bass-only 80-200 hz, bandpass/lowpass low setting 300-1000 hz, high setting 800-1900 hz. filter resonance/q adjustable from less than 1 to oscillation. voltage gain approx. 2 with resonance set to 10 o’clock position and input level set to maximum. both filters, or one at a time, may be selected and mixed in desired amounts using the front-panel response control. this allows for a wide range of equalization and special sound effects. cv inputs are available for sweeping the cutoff frequency and for affecting the treble filter’s resonance. circuit distortion is less than 0.5% typical.

    power requirement: +-12v dc, 150 ma.

    Cool speaking piano

    A “speaking piano” reciting the Proclamation of the European Environmental Criminal Court at World Venice Forum 2009. Unfortunately it’s all in German, but what the piano says is all English, and it’s really neat to watch.

    UPDATE: Astera on hackaday wrote a rough translation:

    Pretty amazing, how all of a sudden the words of the Declaration become understandable to a European Environmental Criminal Court. Wien Modern was one out of ten cultural institutions asked for an artistic contribution to the event in Palazzo Ducale in Venice.
    The ambitious goal was to make this message audible with musical means, without falling back to a simple setting.

    Free – X*ONE is a virtual monophonic synthesizer

    October 12, 2009 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on Free – X*ONE is a virtual monophonic synthesizer

    X*ONE

    X*ONE is a virtual monophonic synthesizer with one oscillator, one modulator, and one 12dB lowpass filter. Although the design is similar to Alterex’s ViCON the sound of this module is described as “phatter”. This basic unit has some tricks up its sleeve and is one of the core parts of Alterex’s X*PAND VSTi – that will be released next year.

    Features:

    • Modulator: low frequency oscillator and envelope generator (tempo synced).
    • Oscillator: saw, square waveform and manual pulse width control.
    • Filter: 12 dB lowpass filter with dedicated envelope modulator.

    Arracis Gold VSTi Synthesizer – free download version

    October 9, 2009 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on Arracis Gold VSTi Synthesizer – free download version

    ArracisGold

    Arracis Gold VSTi Synthesizer’s most significant feature is the 4 x 8 osc step sequencer with adjustable gatelength + modulation on gatelength. With this step sequencer you can have a quite rhythmical output incl short blips (stepping among the oscillators in selectable sequence) plus mixing to the normal (steady) output signal for vivid Pad or Athmos. Thus it is easy to get really fascinating sounds even at the oscillator section only. In addition the 2 inbuilt filters provide further means for tweaking. Finally at the output section there is Spook fx and two delays in series incl. pan modulation for delay and direct out for stunning spatial movement in stereo. You might be amazed about the sophisticated sounds being possible with this easy to access synthesizer.

    Arracis Gold features

    • 4 PCM wave oscillators with 384 waves in 3 banks with mixable output in groups of 2.
    • (User wave & SF2 files can be loaded too into each osc slot).
    • 4 x 8 osc step sequencer with various settings incl. gatelength, hard/soft knob etc.
    • Mixable output of stepped and normal (steady) osc signals incl modulation.
    • 1 24 dB resonant LP filter with ADSR EG and Modulation.
    • 1 12 dB resonant HP filter with ADSR EG and Modulation.
    • Filter bypass + modulation.
    • 1 Bass Enhance.
    • 1 Spook Fx.
    • 2 Delays in series.
    • 3 Pan (direct, delay 1 and delay 2) incl. modulation.
    • 6 LFO + 1 S&H as mod sources.
    • 6 Lazy Buttons (use ‘All’ for limitless patch switching ;-).
    • 10 voices.
    • Key Velocity on Amp, LP & HP Cut, and Filter bypass.

    Arracis Gold Pro is available as a VST instrument plug-in for Windows PC for 29 EUR.

    A free version is available for download. It differs from the Pro version in that it has only 128 waves per oscillator, three voices, sf2 and wave load for osc 1 & 2.
