Mellotronics M3000 HD – Clare Lindley Violin Collection
Clare Lindley, ferocious and fabulous fiddler with Stackridge, showcases her mellower classical side in this glorious, rich and nuanced collection of voices for the M3000. Recorded and engineered in Bath at the studio of her bandmate Glenn Tommey, the Clare Lindley Violin Collection is a unique collection of string sounds, and is the first time a large set of 35 semitone mellotron tapes has been created around a single artist’s performances.
By recording everything in a single, marathon session, we have maintained excellent tonal consistency of sound between the 7 unique voices, which are also provided pre-mixed as 3 ‘ensemble’ voices to provide 10 voices in total.
As is traditional, the test tune is LJ Rich’s wonderful ’30 Shades of Tron’, the official M3000 HD theme tune. Movement between AB and C is happening during ‘Oscillotron’ mode (when the touch rotary control is off-screen) by manipulating the the Mod wheel on the attached MIDI keyboard. ABC tron is moving betwen Pizzicato, Spiccato and the ‘soft, no vibrato Arco’ voices, Tron D plays ‘Ensemble1’, which is a blend of 2 different ‘soft, no vibrato Arco’ voices, and has a remarkable French Horn / Colliery Brass kind of sound. The very soft attacks lead to a surprisingly non-violin sound, which forms beautiful low-level beds underneath just about anything, and the surprising nature of this particular voice was a real bonus, discovered only during mastering of the recordings.
The Clare Lindley Violin Collection is in Review with Apple, and will be available an in-app purchase for owners of Mellotronics M3000 HD running iOS 7 or above.

New material from Gary Numan – ‘I Am Dust’
Directed by Logan Owlbeemoth with effects by Omebi Velouria, this video was made using a Tachyons + video glitch synth effected live via a HI-8 camera and a CRT television to create triply, blurry, VHS-style images of Gary Numan as he sings the song. In a nod to Gary’s analogue roots, no computer post production was used in the making of this video
Gary Numan is currently on tour in the US, then off to Australia/New Zealand followed by the UK(http://www.numan.co.uk/tour/). He’ll be playing Denver on April 4th at the Gothic. Visit his official web site for more news and links to the new album http://www.numan.co.uk/.
Europe In 8 Bits – Opening Titles
Opening titles for Europe In 8 Bits documentary.
Direction, Design, Animation & Music: Device
EUROPE IN 8 BITS is a documentary directed by Javier Polo that explores the world of chip music, a new musical trend that is growing exponentially throughout Europe. The stars of this musical movement reveal to us how to reuse old videogames hardware like Nintendo’s GameBoy, NES, Atari ST, Amiga and the Commodore 64 to turn them into a tool capable of creating a new sound, a modern tempo and an innovative musical style. This is a new way of interpreting music performed by a great many artists who show their skills in turning these “limited” machines designed for leisure in the 80’s into surprising musical instruments and graphical tools. It will leave nobody indifferent.

Yamaha TX802 Demo. “Electronic Machine”
Here is a demo track of the Yamaha TX802 FM Synthesizer.
All sounds (including drums) are from the TX. The tune was recorded and mixed in Cubase, with effects added.
You can download a high quality audio file of this track here:

Despite its name, the TX802 FM Tone Generator is basically a rack-module version of the DX7mkII with full 8-part multi-timbral operation for sequencing and/or key mapping. It has 16-voices of polyphony and six digital FM Operators, the same as in the DX7mkII. There are 128 preset and 64 user patches for your sounds, as well as an external memory cartridge slot.
As if the large keyboard DX versions weren’t difficult enough to program, the TX802’s limited interface makes editing and programming your own sounds next to impossible without the help of external hardware or software editors. In the late 1980’s, the TX802 was an excellent way to get a compact box full of Yamaha’s DX sounds.
