CRUMAR MULTIMAN String Machine 1975 + Gerd Schulte Compact Phasing A

October 7, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on CRUMAR MULTIMAN String Machine 1975 + Gerd Schulte Compact Phasing A

In the first half of the video ‘AnalogAudio’ plays the Crumar Multiman dry, in the second half with a COMPACT PHASING “A” from Gerd Schulte Audio Elektronik. The Compact Phasing A is a German phaser, which was well known in the seventies (at least in Germany). Many units were sold, but it is rare and sought after today. It was used by Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk and others.

This Crumar Multiman is the first version (later came the Multiman S versions which are larger). It was produced in Italy. It has a string section, a brass section (with VCF controls and resonance) and a piano section. It is capable of nice layer sounds. A monophonic bass preset can be added.

“Excuse the crackling noises, my Multiman is not 100% intact. Indeed, it is in terrible shape. Some of the keys don’t play notes, instead they produce some crackling noises. But the basic sound is fantastic!”

Full tutorial of the UES SweepMachine, designed specifically for creating long dramatic noise sweeps. 4 presets and 3 noise generators included. UES SweepMachine is the only tool ever dedicated to create noise sweep. As for all the Electro Suite instruments, it’s ultra easy to use: just trigger a MIDI note, select one of the four presets, set the number of bars you want for the sweep duration and that’s it ! Three noise generators are available including a Sub Noise and a Metal one.

Stacking NovaDrones!

September 30, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Stacking NovaDrones!

Stack your NovaDrones! The Nova Drone is an open source, analog experimental sound and light synth.
It it can be used to create effects ranging from slowly fading drones to chaotic harmonic sequences. It also functions as a complex visual pattern generator when combined with a digital/phone video camera. See the video below for an example of the color patterns generated by holding a camera up to the LED.

The Nova Drones offers 9 potentiometers, 9 switches, 6 oscillators, 3 oscillator sync inputs, 6 frequency modulation inputs and an epic 15 voltage outputs as well as 3 high current outputs for controlling external LEDs. All of the ins and outs have been routed to a prototyping breadboard at the bottom of the unit which allows for liberal experimentation and development of custom circuits. The prototyping area is especially useful for syncing the oscillators of 2 or more Nova Drones together.

The NovaDrone is a new open source hack-able sound and light synth from casperelectronics. Learn more here:

Experimental: Sonification of Everday Things

September 20, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Experimental: Sonification of Everday Things

Dennis P Paul has uploaded this nice experimental video, details below:

This is a serious musical instrument. It rotates everyday things, scans their surfaces, and transforms them into audible frequencies. A variety of everyday objects can be mounted into the instrument. Their silhouettes define loops, melodies and rhythms. Thus mundane things are reinterpreted as musical notation. Playing the instrument is a mixture of practice, anticipation, and serendipity.

The instrument was built from aluminum tubes, white POM, black acrylic glass, a high precision distance measuring laser ( with the kind support of Micro-Epsilon ), a stepper motor, and a few bits and bobs.

A custom programmed translator and controller module, written in processing, transforms the measured distance values into audible frequencies, notes, and scales. It also precisely controlls the stepper-motor’s speed to sync with other instruments and musicians.

Experimental – Dirty Carter Hardwire Mod

September 15, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Experimental – Dirty Carter Hardwire Mod

This is a hardwire mod of the Dirty Carter Experimental Sound Generating Instrument, a post card sized hand held touch controlled instrument, designed by John Richards (Dirty Electronics) and Chris Carter ( Throbbing Gristle, Carter Tutti). It was originally produced for a special performance by Carter and the 25 strong Dirty Electronics Ensemble in 2010. Chris’ artwork is etched into the PCB and forms part of the circuit.

The instrument is mounted on a custom built wooden case with aluminium face plate covered with black leatherette.

On this mod all the touch points are wired up to pots, with rotary switches to select clock range and feedback input, giving more precise control and predictability. The mix tilt switch is disabled and rerouted to a toggle switch. The original speaker is removed and a ¼ audio out socket added. Also added is a low pass filter with resonance and cutoff controls and LFO for modulation and CV in. At full resonance the filter self oscillates.

The original instrument and additional circuitry are powered from a 9v PP3 battery.

September 3, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Interview: Laura Escudé plays live at Sonic Towers

Laura Escudé is right at the sharp the edge of current music technology and controllerism, putting it to use on some of the largest stages – she’s just finished up the UK leg of the Kanye West and Jay-Z Watch The Throne tour where she’s been behind the scenes running Ableton Live for the music, backing tracks and live vocal effects that she designed into the production.

Being one of the first certified trainers for Ableton Live, she’s known for inventive programming and integration of Live into some major touring shows. Doors have opened for her combination of skills as a talented violinist and hardcore programmer, working with Kanye West, Bon Ivor, Herbie Hancock and Garbage as recent and repeat clients.

Laura also release and produces under her own right, when she came to our new studios in Bath, she performed a couple of tunes for us live in between chatting to Gaz Williams about her work and technology.

Laura’s latest solo project is ∆lluxe in which she embraces new electronic hip hop together with some full-on 80’s fashion.
