Beat a can drum machine on Android
Although pretty silly it is nice to see more stuff showing up on Android and more importantly demonstrating the very powerful audio platform Pure Date on smart phones. This might be a turning point for the still widely unknown open source platform also known as the unknown brother of MAX/MSP!

“It’s a way of making Pure Data (Pd), the visual development tool for interactive music and media, more accessible across a range of applications and gadgets. What’s different is that it separates the sound processing part of Pd from the part that talks to audio hardware, allowing Pd to run on a greater variety of mobile devices and inside other applications.

How great can a singer be?
So why don´t we all get ourselves a beer synth before the weekend starts?
Matt has designed beer bottle labels that have markings on them to indicate the pitch of the note that the bottle makes when blown, based on the amount of beer left.
“Tuned Pale Ale is a product that explores the musical affordances in everyday objects and promotes social spontaneity. While drinking beer, people become musically encouraged and often start making music with objects around them. This product aims to promote more of this type of social interaction. Not only do the bottles produce music, but when turned upside down, the limited edition beer case is a tongue drum that produces six different tones!

It’s not especially versatile or attractive – but this cardboard synth will at least make some interesting noises:
“A little and cheap amplifier i built using chewing gum paper as touchpads. The LEDs are synched with the beat. the harder you press on the touchpads, the less resistance your fingers have. this way you can control the beat (left side) or make queer noises (right side).”

Well whatever the case it is an awesome piece of equipement dated somewhere around 1850 and was apparently used by the Swedish king (Karl XVth) and it can be found at Bäckaskog’s Castle in the southern parts of Sweden, where I spent an annual event with my feelow colleagues at TAT.

KORG lunchbox synth
For those of you who haven´t seen this already
Crammed a digital delay, spring reverb and function generator into a lunchbox. The fact that it says korg is sort of a synth geek joke. _ Big thanks go out to tonepad.com and generalguitargadgets.com for being such great resources for this beginner. All boards etched by me using press-n-peel blue and RadioShack etchant.
