Keith McMillen Instruments announced earlier in the week the release of SoftStep, the first universal multi-touch USB/MIDI foot controller.

In this official video, KMI support tech Sarah Howe takes you on a quick tour of the technical aspects of the SoftStep.

Weighing in at just over a pound and fitting into most laptop and guitar cases, SoftStep has ten sensor keys, which go beyond the simple on and off commands by supporting five degrees of motion.

See Sonic State’s Softstep introduction coverage for details.

Become truly ambient with Aura Flux

October 5, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Become truly ambient with Aura Flux

Aura Flux is an auto-generative ambient music app for iOS devices that encourages people to be visual with their audio production. Aura Flux is like an interactive dot-to-dot experience, where each picture created generates an individual and unique soundscape. Aura Flux comes with 48 instruments, four Seasons (keys) and a constantly evolving background ambience.

Chains of notes are created quickly and easily by visually connecting nodes using the multitouch interface. These nodes can be customized by setting the pitch, trigger rate, volume, decay and adding additional chord notes. By layering these chain reactions together, the user can produce lush-sounding ambient melodies and with the option to randomize many of the settings can introduce elements of generative music into their creations. The keys are locked to certain intervals so that it’s impossible to create harsh dissonance or unpleasant-sounding harmonies. There are a number of background ambience pads that serve to knit together a more coherent piece.

Aura Flux is a Universal app, so it will work on all iOS devices with one purchase. Aura Flux is priced at $1.99

Lemur from Jazz Mutants

February 21, 2008 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on Lemur from Jazz Mutants

If you haven´t done so already make sure to check out the Lemur from Jazz Mutants. The Lemur is a top of the range control surface for audio and media applications, that breaks from the prior art on several grounds. Its major innovation consists in its brilliant modular graphic interface concept and its exclusive multitouch sensor technology. The continiously growing palette of configurable graphic objects enables you to design made-to-measure interfaces by using the free available JazzEditor. This endows the Lemur with the unique and protocol independant capacity to adapt its behavior according to the application you are controlling: sequencers, modular synthesizers, virtual instruments, VJ software, 3D animation tools and light control.

The Lemur’s pioneering concept relies on JazzMutant’s unique patented multitouch technology. While conventional mice, touchscreens and tablets are limited to single contact points, the Lemur’s multi-touch capacity makes it possible to use all of your ten fingertips to accurately control multiple user-interface objects at once. The Lemur appeals to you straight away by its amazing responsiveness.

I wonder if they will get in trouble with Apple on this !!

Even Daft Punk enjoyed this at their latest gig on Feb 10th:
