New analogue modelled saturation plug-in
MellowMuse is about to release SATV, an analogue modelled saturation plug-in with four preset models, perfect for adding harmonic depth and richness to any material.
Together with four preset models (A to D), SATV features Drive, Mix, Output, and an innovative Group mode.
Group mode allows all instances of SATV in your session to be controlled from any one instance of SATV.
For example, setting Drive or saturation mode on any SATV will update all other instances allowing subtle or radical changes to the character of your entire mix from any SATV. SATV’s efficient CPU usage allows for high instance counts.
Working model of Raymond Scott’s circle machine
“I’ve been working on building a working model of Raymond Scott’s circle machine. I thought it would be fun to build something with motors and lamps.
The only information I have is the picture on the Raymond Scott site. I used a Hammond vibrato scanner base as the base for the circle machine and mounted it on a plate with 16 potentiometers around it. I only have 8 lamps installed but I have it playing an octave scale (the output is quantized). I’ve got a thread going on Muff’s in the Music Tech DIY but thought I’d post a link here as well. I’m not sure how practical it is but it’s kind of fun to watch. It’s also been fun to prototype.
I’m using incandescent lamps, rheostats (e.g. potentiometers) and a CdS sensor. All the control and processing electronics are done in a microprocessor (I know it’s not original but those are the electronics *below* the panel). This will be a stand-alone module as it takes over 12 watts of power.

Iris release album and single
Synthpop act Iris will release a new album, Blacklight, September 3 on Diffusion Records in North America and Infacted Recordings in Europe; the album will be preceded August 27 by an exclusive European single, Closer to Real, featuring a remix by Stromkern.

The successor of the TAL-Elek7ro
It’s time for a latest soft synth released by Patrick Kunz (Togu Audio Line): NoiseMaker. It’s an improved version of previously released TAL-Elek7ro and, according to official notes, has a completely new synth engine and a lot of improvements in sound and usability. There are 2 Oscillators + one sub oscillator. The synth also includes a small effect section with a reverb, chorus and a simple bit crusher effect. There are 128 factory presets included. Just like most TAL plugins, NoiseMaker is available both for PC and MAC and is low CPU hungry. Good freebie.

The Synthstation iPhone MIDI keyboard
Akai has announced that it’s opening up the Synthstation iPhone MIDI keyboard to development by third-party developers, at no cost.
This is a really interesting development – it means that we could soon have an explosion of Synthstation-compatible synths. This makes the $99 Synthstation a lot more interesting; download a $10 iPhone app and you’ve got a new hardware synth!

I took the opportunity to record video clips of this evening on my Nikon D300s camera using an AF-S Nikkor 35mm lens. Sound was recorded just using the camera’s built in mic, which while not optimal, yielded reasonably good results.

But there has been some demand for more so I’ve now created four more parts.
