The first album after the OMD reunion, “The History of Modern”

August 17, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on The first album after the OMD reunion, “The History of Modern”

The sleeve is designed by Peter Saville, the inhouse designer from old Factory Records.

The first album after the OMD reunion, “The History of Modern”, is scheduled for a September 20 release on 100% Records.

– The title felt appropriate, says Andy McCluskey When we started we were very conscious of trying to be modern in the future. But that was over thirty years ago. You were trying to do something that was modern and then the world changes and what you did use to do somehow has become historical.

Its seems to be a metaphor for the band, Andy thinks.

– Also, currently electronic music is very much in fashion. But again, a huge percentage of it to me is really a pastiche of something from thirty years ago. They are not really doing anything new. They’ve just bought a lot of old records and copied them. So it is just this idea of perception of what is modern and what the future is.

The first single and video pick will be “If You Want It” (September 6), released in a limited edition yellow 7″ vinyl with the B-side “Idea 1” and as digital download with another B-side, “Alone”.

There will be an album listening and launch party at Club 24 in London on the day of the single release (September 6), featuring a 30 minute performance by Paul Humphreys and Andy McCluskey. London is where Paul lives with his partner Claudia Brücken (ex-Propaganda). Andy has remained in Merseyside near Liverpool.

The new tour starts in Liverpool on October 2 where OMD will perform with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. UK, Germany, BeNeLux and France are the countries in question for the tour so far. Mirrors is the support act.

Avatar Premonitions is a  Two CD release, recorded live live by Dimitri Schkoda aka Inner Dreamer and features only HG Fortune’s Avatar ST VSTi Synthesizer (no additional effects even)

“The skilful play of Dimitri Schkoda unveils the very sonic potential of this synthesizer. This is partly cinematic to orchestral ambient sometimes with a dark touch and very well suited not only for relaxation but also for intense listening of his imaginary songs done with the ‘Futuristic Orchestra’ as he calls it.  He has dedicated this masterpiece of music ‘to all friends around the world who support works of HG Fortune’.”

In the video demo above, DMC World Champ DJ Shiftee gives the Traktor Kontrol S4 DJ system a workout highlighting the new Sample Decks and Loop Recorder in four mini-routines:

    • Live looping and editing, cue point juggling and jog wheel scratching on the Tetris melody, using dubstep Loopmaster loops.
    • Using one-shots like speech samples and horn-stabs in the S4 Sample Decks to build a set.
    • Triggering synced loops, grabbing them on-the-fly from Diplo’s remix of “Flashing Lights” and using the Sample Decks as an additional deck in Traktor.

Traktor Kontrol S4 is expected to be available this winter for $999 USD/899 EUR. The Traktor Kontrol Case will retail for for $189 USD/169 EUR.

Check out the demo and let me know what you think of Traktor Kontrol S4!

    More details below.

    Traktor Kontrol S4 Overview

This video offers Native Instrument’s official introduction to the Traktor Kontrol S4 system.

    Traktor Kontrol S4 Software

The included TRAKTOR PRO S4 software offers the full feature set of TRAKTOR PRO, further expanded through new performance functions and an optimized user interface.

Two flexible Sample Decks can add up to eight simultaneous one-shot samples or beat-synced loops to the mix, opening up creative remixing and mash-up possibilities that go far beyond conventional DJing techniques.

The unique Loop Recorder also allows DJs to capture and overdub audio loops from the live mix, cue signal or an external input on the fly, and drop them back into the mix at any time.

    Traktor Kontrol S4 Hardware

All relevant functions including looping, cueing, effects control and track browsing are immediately accessible on the Kontrol S4 hardware, with multi-color backlighting, LED status displays and comprehensive level metering designed to let you focus on performance rather than on the computer screen.

The dual touch-sensitive jog wheels on the KONTROL S4 hardware offer precise and responsive deck control, due to a new electromagnetic technology, complemented through Native Instruments’ high resolution NHL protocol, that provides superior performance over conventional MIDI. The integrated low-latency 24bit/96kHz audio interface is based on the AUDIO 4 DJ.

External time-code control via turntables and CD decks will be enabled through a future software upgrade. To accommodate touring DJs, a professional flightcase that doubles as an adjustable performance stand will also be available as an accessory for TRAKTOR KONTROL S4.

Metering plug-in featuring upsampled peak detection

August 16, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Metering plug-in featuring upsampled peak detection

Audio Pluggers has released a beta of K-Meter, a metering plug-in featuring upsampled peak detection, perceived loudness metering, K-System compatibility, and pink noise monitor calibration.

By using the K-System and K-Meter, audio engineers can ensure that their mixes reproduce accurately on a variety of playback systems, from theaters to MP3 players. K-Meter’s perceived loudness meter models the ear’s sensitivity to different frequencies, giving you a much more accurate indication of loudness than conventional meters. Combine this with the ability to detect inter-sample peaks, and you can be confident that your mixes are of the highest quality.

    K-Meter features

    • Built from the ground up around the K-System.
    • Upsampled peak detection that discovers inter-sample peaks missed by other meters (upsamples up to 4x the input rate).
    • Perceived loudness meter supporting the LKFS measurement (ITU-R BS.1770-1). This models the ear’s sensitivity to different frequencies.
    • Band-limited RMS meter for monitor calibration and compatibility with other meters.
    • Pink noise generator for monitor calibration.
    • Resettable clip indicators with sensitivity dial.
    • Collapsible interface that occupies less screen space.
    • All-in-one 32-bit and 64-bit universal binary supporting Intel and PPC Macs.
    • SIMD optimization including AltiVec and SSE support.
    • User manual including background on the K-System.

The K-Meter beta is available to purchase as an Audio Unit plug-in for Mac, for $25 USD (all future K-Meter updates and patches, free of charge). K-Meter will be $50 USD when it is released.

CVM module. Sequencer is an analogue Oberkorn. Playing two MIDI synths; Telemark (making the crazy sound) and Leipzig-r (warm synth sound). Oberkorn is also controlling velocity (in turn changing the filter cut-off). Joystick just adding a little transpose. Also here you can glimpse my white Red Square.
