Auto-fire Tremolo and Death-Ray Generator
Includes the Striptease™ ribbon controller!Are you ready to wreak havoc and unleash a battalion of sound waves that will slay your opponents, or at least have them begging for mercy? Good, because the Kill Switch from Kilpatrick Audio has the power you need to create substantial sonic damage. And it does it under your complete control using the Striptease™ ribbon controller. (included) The death-ray generator uses an internal oscillator to create sound without even playing your guitar. Any frequency from earth-shaking bass (if your amp has the balls) to soul-piercing squeals and chirps is possible. You can make steady drones using the FREQUENCY control, and adjust the frequency in real-time with the Striptease™.
But in addition to the built-in death-ray generator, the Kill Switch has a hard tremolo effect which gives the pedal its name. You can either leave it on all the time (by using the SPEED control), or momentarily activate it by touching the Striptease™ ribbon controller. The speed of the tremolo is continuously variable with either the SPEED control or Striptease™, and the pulse width can be set by using the WIDTH control. The tremolo affects both the guitar signal and the death-ray generator’s oscillator, or can be disabled if you want to use the oscillator by itself. A wide range of incredible effects is possible.
With high-quality construction using only top name parts, the Kill Switch is designed for a lifetime of rocking. The enclosure is made from cold-rolled steel with a powder-coated paint job for long life. Circuitry is hand-wired and tested for perfection. Battery life is long due to a low-power design, and with the unique Pure Bypass technology, pristine sound quality is maintained in your signal path when the effect is out of the circuit.

Tactile Sounds has introduced Substance, a free Windows software synthesizer.

Substance is a virtual analog software synthesizer (VSTi) emphasizing simplicity, flexibility, and sound quality. The key factors in the design of Substance were that it should sound great, without effects, and that it should all fit on one page.
Here’s a sonic preview of Substance:
Substance has two of everything: two oscillator sections, two LFOs, two envelopes, two filters. The oscillator sections were inspired by the architecture of classic analog polysynths, which used multiple oscillators to achieve polyphony, but allowed the oscillators to be combined for a monophonic Unison mode. The oscillators would generally be slightly out of tune with one another, resulting in a rich, chorused sound. Each of Substance’s oscillators likewise comprises seven unison voices, with the amount of detuning, and the stereo breadth being adressed by a single parameter, Spread. The LFOs can be used to modulate almost every parameter of the synth. They can be used to trigger the envelopes, to modulate the frequency and pulse-width of the oscillators, the cutoff frequency of the filters, and the volume of the amplifier. LFO-1 can be switched between free-running, tempo-synced, and key-synced modes. A manual is included in the download link, detailing all of the other features.

Newtone in in FL Studio 9.5?
Image-Line posted a preview video of a new pitch correction plugin called Newtone. According to their news page, “The final version will have full toolbars and work as a FL Studio native plugin.” – I’m assuming this means the plugin will be released in FL Studio 9.5.
Newtone could make FL Studio more relevant. Of course VST version would be even better. Bottom line, Newtone looks like an a very affordable option to get Melodyne functionality into the hands of FL users and users of other hosts via Rewire.
Video Killed The Radio Star
Trevor Horn and ZTT Records have announced the return of The Buggles, on stage for their first ever full live gig, 30 years after their international #1 hit single Video Killed The Radio Star.
Trevor will reconvene the original Buggles line-up, including Geoff Downes (Yes, Asia) and Bruce Woolley (Camera Club, Grace Jones), to preform their début album, The Age of Plastic, in full.
No tour is planned, no DVD or live CD will be released. The Buggles, along with some guest artists, will perform live on stage for one night only, on 28 September 2010 at a West London venue.
This event is being put together to raise funds for London’s Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability. Active since 1854, the hospital has a simple but very important mission: to add years to life and life to years.
