IAMX goes for March release of ‘Volatile Times’

Out on BMG by March 18th 2011 is IAMX’s “Volatile Times” CD. The release for the all new IAMX album was slightly postponed but is now coming both in a first limited edition digipak and as a special 2LP+CD. This is the first time that an IAMX album will be released as vinyl. “Volatile Times” is the 4th studio album created by Chris Corner aka IAMX, formerly also the mastermind of Sneaker Pimps fame. Close listeners will notice that some of the new tracks are reminiscent of Corner’s previous band, Sneaker Pimps, and keep alive the cabaret-esque and dark electronic sound.

The deluxe double-vinyl / CD set comes in a cardboard sleeve including the exclusive bonus-track “Avalanches”. “Volatile Times” will be preceded by single “Ghosts of Utopia” to be released on February 25.

Here’s my new track called “Shadows in Color”. It was arranged and improvised live on the Octatrack and Machinedrum. No real preparations, so there are some small mistakes here and there =)

Wind Chimes

I’ve been thinking about a wind chime patch for quite a while. Thought the new .com quantizers might help me so I made my first try tonight. I’m not entirely happy but it’s a start. I guess getting the proper randomness is the hardest part. Getting quite the right sound isn’t easy either, best is the MiniMoog in this piece, then the SEM and last, unexpectedly the .com modular.

Blue Cat Audio is back with free update

February 10, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Blue Cat Audio is back with free update

Blue Cat Audio has announced it has updated all its audio plug-ins.

We have just released an update for all our audio plug-ins: it fixes an issue with keyboard focus being stolen by the plug-ins in Pro Tools and several other host applications (mainly on Mac).

For several analysis plug-ins, it also makes the visibility of controls persistent. For plug-ins that did not support it already, this update also brings 64-bit VST support on Mac as well as SSE 2 optimizations for better performance.

The upgrade is free for existing customers.

Wearable instrument

February 10, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Wearable instrument

Di Mainstone in her latest work “Serendiptichord” creates a wearable instrument that not only functions as a metaphorical extension of the performer but as a physical and architectural extension of the body itself.

Mainstone’s wearable instruments look like detachable organs that reshape the body’s silhouette and redefine its limits. As with Di Mainstone’s previous work, the instrument’s form is quite provokative and unconventional, drawing inspiration more from architecture and fashion than from traditional musical instrument design.

The instrument, constructed from unconventional “soft” materials, is played by the performer through touch and movement.
