MS-20 filter clone available now
Befaco has announced the BF 20V – a new clone of the Korg MS-20 filter for modular synths.
Two weeks ago, at our workshop in Barcelona, we started assembling the first units of our latest module: a very faithful replica of the legendary LP/HP filter of the MS 20.
The most demanding part of the design was reproducing the Korg 35, a dedicated IC found at the heart of the original filter. To be able to clone the filter, we first had to clone the IC! It consists of a mini PCB, so small we had to use SMD components for the first time (the people that attended our workshop had a blast!
)
The clone of the chip is 100% compatible with the original filter, so it can be used as a part for repairing real MS-20?s!
Pricing and availability are to be announced. See the Befaco site for details.

Understanding the basics of warping full tracks
Ableton Certified Trainer and Dubspot Instructor, Michael Hatsis, a.k.a. !banginclude explains and demonstrates basic and essential warping techniques in Ableton Live in the part one of this three-part video tutorial series exploring creative ways to warp tracks in Live. Using a standard house track with a 4×4 drum pattern, Hatsis shows how to set Live warping preferences, determining and entering an approximate tempo by tapping the tempo Tab along with the song, figuring out the downbeat and set where the track starts, in this case – first kick, transient marker. Stay tuned for part two and three, as Michael Hatsis delves further into Live and offers more creative tips and techniques for warping.

The secrets of trance music – How to make a killer lead and bass
How To Make Lead and Bass Like Dash Berlin Disarm Yourself feat. Emma Hewitt (Club Mix)
In this video:
I received a request for this tutorial and this is the result. This video is my take on reproducing the lead and bass sequence from the track “Disarm Youself feat. Emma Hewitt (Club Mix)” by Dash Berlin. It uses Sylenth1, compression, eq, and saturator in Abelton Live. In the actual track, there’s also a piano part present that I did not replicate in this tutorial.
Back to the 70’s with the new Reason Disco Refill
Make your dance music sparkle with Reason Disco School, the new ReFill from Propellerhead Software that recreates the classic sounds of disco. There will be fever. Propellerhead Software has released Reason Disco School – a new ReFill that explores the classic sounds that came out of three of Disco’s biggest capitals: New York, Los Angeles and Philadelphia.
Ranging from old school Philadelphia layers of lush strings, through club beats of New York in the late 1970?s to the slick styles of Los Angeles, Disco School features six songs in three different keys, from simple two-chord progressions to more complex themes.
http://www.propellerheads.se/reason-disco-school/
All sounds of Reason Disco School are sourced from the complete songs; each composed, arranged and produced for Reason Disco School. The musical elements – bass, drums, guitars, strings, keyboards, percussion and horns – are provided in Propellerhead’s tempo-independent REX format, designed to fit into modern club tracks or old-school hip hop productions.
Included in the ReFill is also a collection of multisampled drums for use with Reason’s NN-XT sampler and powerful Combinator device. Additionally, for club music, Disco School comes packed with electronic drums, claps and toms designed by electronic music artist, DJ and producer Sharooz.
On top of all the disco grooves and loops, Reason Disco School provides a collection of instruments based on the ElectroMechanical ReFill (a free downloadable ReFill for any registered Reason owner). Reverb and distortion effects are included, as well as “needle drop” snippets of sampled grooves to round out the library.
The Reason Disco School ReFill is available now at the Propellerhead site for US $99/€79 EUR.

Using Ableton Live as Sync Master
Ableton Live as Sync Master driving Innerclock Systems Cynq-Lock via the new Sync-Gen II software driving Elektron Machine Drum (Midi Clock) and Analogics ACS Sequencers/Tip Top Analogue Modular via Cynq-Lock Trigger and Reset Outs.
Machine Drum and ACS Sequencers swing from Sync-Gen II Software. No effects. No delays. No post production. No Audio Loop Time correction, warping or track offset.
The Cynq-Lock/Sync-Gen II combination works with any existing multichannel soundcard and requires absolutely no modification to your existing hardware. It is a genuine Plug-and-Play system that lets you get ‘out of the box’ to concentrate on making, recording and enjoying music with external hardware again.
The Cynq-Lock generates phase-synchronous Din-Sync, Midi Clock and Analogue Pulse Triggers within 20 microseconds (0.882 samples at 44.1 kHz) which in real terms means your external hardware and your DAW recorded audio line up perfectly in real-time every time. Your DAW audio and your external hardware sound like one tight machine.
Unlike software generated Midi Clock which is notoriously prone to slop and jitter, our new Sync-Gen II software feeds sample accurate and tempo-grid locked pulses from your DAW Host Application to the Cynq-Lock which in turn generates ultra-precise and phase-synchronous Midi Clock, Din Sync and Voltage Triggers to feed all your external hardware. They sound they way they were designed to and tracking perfectly synchronised playback back into the DAW with zero sync jitter means the recorded audio lines up exactly with your grid. No more time wasting waveform editing or re-quantizing of audio just to make things sit right plus you get to use ALL the recorded performance and not just a single bar.

VirSyn has announced iSyn Poly – a new electronic music studio for the Apple iPad.
iSyn Poly is an electronic music studio for use with Apple iPad. iSyn Poly places an unbelievable number of features including three studio-quality, fully programmable virtual analog synthesizers and a drum machine packed in just three different screens on your iPad !
Each synthesizer is a full-featured analog modeling synth with three oscillators, a classic 24 db/oct ladder-style lowpass filter, independent filter and amp envelope generators, and full modulation routings. With our 10+ years of experience with analog simulations you can expect some serious sound easily covering all those fat frequencies so prevalent in modern production.
iSyn Poly also includes a sample playback-based drum machine with seventeen kits, each containing eight samples. Drum samples include 808, 909, modular synth drums and numerous 80’s drum machines. Volume, pan and decay time are individually adjustable and pitches are tunable over a wide range for crazy effects.
The full fledged sequencer let you arrange complete songs and can record the notes and controller movements of your performance. The unique gesture oriented user interface makes it ideal for live editing of notes and automations.
Play the three synths or drum machine with the onscreen keyboard/drum pads for fun live jam sessions, or let iSyn Poly do the playing for you with its full featured piano roll sequencer editable while playing. Play the keyboard by touching notes, or sliding up and down for amazingly expressive pitch glides and vibrato. iSyn Poly can even play a beat and synth track while you jam over sequenced tracks for a one-man iPad band!
With the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit you can use a CoreMIDI compatible MIDI Keyboard to control iSyn Poly.
iSyn Poly is developed by VirSyn with content from audioMIDI.com
