Special Stage Systems has introduced Ming Mecca, a new Eurorack modular system described as a ‘voltage-controlled videogame console’.

Here’s what they have to say about the new Euro video synthesizer:

With the heart of a video synthesizer and the brain of a videogame console, Ming Mecca is the first of its kind: an ontological toy, a videogame easel, and a love letter to all things retrofuture. Designed for use in Eurorack format synthesizers but built to meet the demands of even the most seasoned micro-galactic interlopers, Ming Mecca modules will take your rig where no rig has gone before.

Ming Mecca brings voltage control to a comprehensive set of classic videogame design parameters, from details like object location and animation, to big-picture elements like game rules and level geography.

The Ming Mecca system lets you turn off gravity at the flick of a switch, or scroll through seasons at the turn of a knob. Or you can populate your world with exotic creatures, then modulate their identities with random voltage.

Ming Mecca is estimated to ship during the summer of 2014.Estimated pricing (subject to change depending on volume and cost of production):

  • World Core at $999
  • Control Core at $349
  • Kits TBD

Below a couple of videos showing the module in action:

Exclusively Analogue has announced new synth modules

universal-active-filter-300x202

Exclusively Analogue has announced status on shipping synth modules and some new modules.

These modules are currently available to order:

  • The Universal Active Filter is a faithful reproduction of the Emu module.
  • The VCO Range Switch module allows instant octave shifting of any 1Volt/octave VCO. 3 individual VCOs can be controlled by this unit and. although designed for the Emu system. it can be fitted to any modular provided there is a suitable Power Supply.
  • The Pot Pourri module is their take on the Emu Pot Pourri module and includes 2 Low Frequency Oscillators, 2 Analogue Inverters, a basic Noise Source, and a Sample and Hold (S&H).

Upcoming modules include:

  • The 2340 Voltage Controlled Lag Processor performs a rate-limiting function on its input; it introduces a linear or exponential slide in the output voltage if the input voltage changes faster than a certain rate. Typically it is used to process control voltages?for example, it can give voltage controlled portamento when its input is a keyboard control voltage and it can turn a gate into a voltage controlled attack/release transient generator.
  • The 2430 Ring Modulator is a balanced modulator for electronic music. The module has two inputs, modulation and carrier, which are identical for high signal levels. The output is the algebraic product of the input voltages: Vout = Vmod x Vcar ÷ 5 when the input attenuators are fully clockwise and the coupling switches are in the DC position. AC coupling will level-shift the corresponding input so it effectively centers around zero volts. This can have a striking effect on the output signal, due to the inherent non-linearity of balanced modulation.

Steady State Fate GND CTRL ( Ground Control)

GND CTRL features seven gain presets for bridging a wide range of signal and control voltages for your audio and video systems. GND CTRL also provides these commonly used utility functions:
Attenuator, Inverter, Multiple, full scale DC Bias and Bipolar Clipping Indicator.

Last but not least, GND CTRL is a dual mode OLED Voltage Meter! The Voltmeter can display AC voltages as a needle/bar display or DC and AC voltages numerically. The voltmeter is normaled to the CV processor so you can measure your changes with instant feedback.
Additionally, a dedicated voltmeter input is available for non-destructive voltage metering on the fly.

Modular Synth Pop

Background video description:

Here’s a short demo of my Snazzy FX Ardcore triple clock divider sketch. I took the original clock divider sketch and added a third division through the DAC output. Each divider can be set from 1 to 8. The fourth knob resets the clock. I wasn’t planning on making a video until I realized while testing it out that I recreated a familiar tune. :)

DSI Tempest 1983

Here is a new video featuring the DSI Tempest. Tempest is a professional drum machine that generates its sounds using six powerful analog synthesis voices, and uses an innovative, performance-oriented operating system that permits an extraordinary level of control to create, edit, arrange, and manipulate beats in real time without ever stopping.

“This is the first of two videos were I recorded the Tempest 6 individual outputs live in one take into Logic and then afterwards mixed it.

I recorded the DSI Tempest 6 individual outputs straight into the UAD Apollo sound card in one take. Then I played 2 overdubs on the Tempest pads with polyphonic synth sounds.
The reverb, EQ and compressor are from the UAD Apollo and recorded live at the same time. Then some mixing/mastring in Logic. All synth sounds made by DreamProbe.

Check out my website: www.dreamprobemusic.com
There you can listen to my music, download sounds/samples etc.”

Checking out a new product from Tronsonic and Synthmagic called the System 1000M which is an analog modular synthesizer for Kontakt. It was sampled through valve tube equipment directly to tape and it has tons of character and warmth.
