Birthday On Mars

This semi-improvised piece is recorded live, in one take, and features the MU format synth and the EMW200/300 cross-patched. The new DotCom S/H module is playing the cello like sound from the DDVCO. The EMW is providing filter filter modulation and some counter melodies from the sequencer and S/H section. I must also point out the new STG Soundlabs mixer and say that Eric’s claims about the sound are absolutely true. Everything I feed through it sounds better coming out than going in. Off camera there are some effects units that are being controlled by hand (and foot) to process the sine wave from the small Eico signal generator.

May 5th is the birthday of Radiophonic Workshop pioneer Delia Derbyshire.

Claviness and Wurlitsar instrument ensembles for Reaktor

Boscomac has announced Mk2 versions of its Claviness and Wurlitsar instrument ensembles for Native Instruments Reaktor.

I announce that CLAVINESS and WURLITSAR are died … to be reborn better in their MK2 Version, Yeah ! Nothing is more difficult than doing a mk2 version that requires as much work as the creation of the instrument! But in the end, we get a better result, Yeah !

WURLITSAR is a Wurlitzer who has a warm et round sound! Now you can mix the direct signal with the amplified signal and get an interesting balance. You can also adjust the rate of distortion of the amplifier to get some “crunch” to the wurli. Vibrato has been replaced by the ability to adjust the tremolo on the panoramic. The instrument offers two types of sound, normal or round, and it has a nice little spring reverb …

CLAVINESS is a clavinet with sensitive strings! More than MK2 version, it is a revisit to really approach the original instrument. The clavinet is an instrument that has a lot of feeling. Here, different tones are available with some very effective effects such as chorus, phaser and auto-filter and the ability to mute the strings. Ideal for the rhythmic players, it is almost impossible not to have the groove with such an instrument …

Both ensembles are available to download at no cost. Donations are appreciated.

Monday morning modular synth action coming your way

On a lazy Sunday Morning, Mario Bianco is extracting some weird and bubbling noise from his mighty EuroRack Modular Synthesizer; mainly Makenoise and Harvestman and Livewire and 4ms, sounds goes naturally in a “buchlesque” direction. Have fun.

“I tried to squeeze the most Trance I could out of the modular. Hope you enjoy it!”

Time machine: Roland Juno-60 Analog Synthesizer (1982)

May 6, 2013 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Time machine: Roland Juno-60 Analog Synthesizer (1982)

Vintage synthesizer single sound demo by RetroSound

The Roland Juno-60 is a popular analogue 61-key polyphonic synthesizer introduced by Roland Corporation in 1982 and a successor to the slightly earlier Juno-6. Like its predecessor, the Juno-60 has some digital enhancements, used only for clocking the oscillators and for saving and loading patches. This instrument was succeeded by the Roland Juno-106 in 1984.

Roland was losing market share with the Juno-6 in competition against the Korg Polysix. Related in features and price-class, the Polysix featured external control and patch memory, which the Juno-6 lacked. These features were quickly added to the Juno-6’s design, which sonically and architecturally did not change notably between the two versions, and then released as the Juno-60.

all sounds programmed by RetroSound

For me is the Juno-60 one of the best analog synthesizers ever. The bass and pad sounds are much better as from the big brother Jupiter-8. One of my Top 5 synths.
