Gravilux lets you draw with stars: it’s a combination of painting, animation, art, science, and gaming. As you touch Gravilux’s screen, gravity draws simulated stars to your fingertips. You can tease and twist the particles into galaxies, or explode them like a supernova. You can color stars by their speed, change the strength of gravity, number of stars, their color, and even enable antigravity. Multiple fingers and multiple people can touch the screen at once, collaborating or competing. Gravilux was first released as a work of interactive art by Scott Snibbe Studio that was only available in galleries and museums. Now it’s available as an Android application.

Scratch Sensor using the Android Smartphone
Scratch is an interpreted dynamic visual programming language. Being dynamic, it lets code be changed even as programs are running. It has the goal of teaching programming concepts to kids and teens and letting them create games, videos, and music. It can be downloaded for free and is being used at home and in a wide variety of in-school and after-school settings around the world.
Connections between Scratch and other programs are made using the Scratch networking protocol. With this feature turned on, Scratch automatically sends all broadcasts and values of global variables out to any program connected to it. That program can also send broadcasts and global variables into Scratch. The Scratch Sensor is an Android app that uses the Scratch networking protocol to turn the Android Smartphone into a DAQ module and sends its accelerometer and compass sensor information and broadcast two states (jump and walk) to Scratch.

Generative music performance app now released on Android
Orbits is an application for generative music performance, based around a gravity-based particle simulation. As a sandbox-type toy, there is no goal or ultimate aim.
Instructions:
Place a finger (or multiple fingers) on the screen to create particles. While you hold a finger down, the particle increases in size. Drag while holding down to set a starting direction for the particle (as if pulling back on a slingshot).Release to make the particle take off in the opposite direction. When two particles collide, they play two notes based on the particles’ sizes. The notes are locked to a scale/chord (which changes automatically), and thus are always in tune. Create particles of different sizes to get something interesting. Particles attract each other with a gravity-like force. Try to put particles in orbit around each other to create some interesting movements! Larger particles exert a more powerful force.
Press the Android menu button to open the option menu, where you can turn off the background chord or set the app into “autoplay” mode. When in autoplay, the particles will generate themselves, and you can sit back and watch what happens (you can still interact).

Dynamically Create Interfaces via OSC
This video shows how you can create interfaces on-the-fly via OSC messages sent to Control v1.3. Widgets can be added, removed and modified. Arbitrary Javascript can also be executed to manipulate multiple widgets simultaneously. So, if you’re looking to turn an Android phone or flashy, new Android tablet into a touch controller for music, you’ll be really glad to see OSC and MIDI controller Control.
Control enables users to create their own interfaces for controlling musical, artistic and virtual reality applications. It is built on top of the WebKit rendering engine and allows users to define their interfaces via JSON files. Features include:

This is just a quick overview of how to the different machines to put together a song loop. I’m hoping to create more in-depth videos explaining some of the more complicated machines like the SubSynth and Sequencer in the near future. Stay tuned.
