This is an example, how to use the basic stuff in your room in such creative and musician way. Just take some noisy and voiced objects and record them with any sampler. At the end use all this stuff to create any music u desire. Or… You even don’t need any sampler. Just use your friends, give them gadgets and transform your party into gizmo-jam-session. Two new audio effect plugins
Two Notes Audio Engineering has announced the Torpedo PI-101 and Torpedo PI-FREE, two new audio effect plugins.
The Torpedo PI-101 and PI-FREE plug-ins feature the unique Torpedo algorithm originally found on the VB-101 and VM-202 units, that allows the user to virtually move the microphone in front of the speaker cabinet (as you would in a real recording room) and to simulate the sound of a hard driven speaker.
Torpedo PI-101 is a hi end channel strip plug-in for your guitar amp / preamp. It features three different sections: power amp with 8 different power amp topologies, “Miking” with more than 30 cabs and 8 studio-standard microphones and last but not least, Post FX featuring Low cut filter, 5-band EQ, exciter and compressor.
Torpedo PI-FREE is based on the flagship model, the PI-101, but only features 1 model of power amp simulation (EL34 / AB class), 1 speaker cab (based on a Marshall 4×12) and 1 type of microphone (based on a Shure SM57). And you still have the full Post FX section.
Torpedo PI-101 will be available to purchase for 199 EUR excl. VAT early February, 2011 (requires iLok USB key to authorize). Torpedo PI-FREE is free to use, is not time limited and does not need an iLok USB key.

Cool sfx collections – space, rock and creek
New Sound Lab is an independent sound library site created by Tor Johnson. The library features field recordings from Southern California. From nature to metropolis, Tor’s goal is to have a wide variety of high quality, usable sound packages fit for any sound designer’s collection. All releases are recorded in either 96khz or 192khz using a Sanken CSS-5 microphone and Sound Devices 702 recorder. Photos of recording locations, GPS coordinates and other meta data are included.
There are three sfx collections already available on the site:
- Space Echo 201 ($25) – Features 75 WAV files (1.01GB) recorded from a RE-201 processor. The samples are collected from the space echo self oscillation, as well the triggered delay from various sound sources. Use these samples for the classic Space Echo sound or chop up and manipulate them for new sound creation/design.
- Rock Slides ($25) – Includes 57 recordings (272MB) of various small rock, pebble, and other debris slides.
- San Antonio Creek ($25) – Features 32 recordings (1.17GB) of the remote San Antonio creek located in the Angeles National Forest. The creek morphs from almost a trickle at 8,000 feet to a large waterfall below, allowing for a wide range of moving water sounds to be captured.
There’s another library coming soon, called LAX Aircraft, featuring recordings of several airplanes, such as Airbus A330, Boeing 737, 757, 747, and Bombardier 800.

Recording audio on iPad with Behringer U-control UCA222
Testing the cheap and compact audio interface UCA222 for recording audio on iPad. Even with the power limitations of iOS 4.2 for external devices the UCA222 works nice with the Camera Connection Kit. No external power supply needed. It’s a nice solution for recording in stereo keeping the mobility.
For this video I used the Multitrack Daw app and a Korg Microx. The demo song is an excerpt of Renaissance’s Can You Understand (Ashes are burning, 1973).

Bluntmation has published a nice video featuring Audio Lead David Collins talking about several aspects of the sound of a scene of “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II”. Also, David directs a pretty cool voice over session, where he makes Nate Burr (Bluntmation blogger) to sound like Darth Vader.
