How the EMS AKS handles audio through the Hi Input channels
Quick and Dirty patch featuring the EliKing Light sensitive delay soda-POP can and a mildly modded TR-606 drum machine with individual outs.
Wanted to see how the EMS AKS handles audio through the Hi Input channels.
TR 606 outputs:
Snare massaged then to Roland RE-201 Space Echo.
Hihats to EliKing Light sensitive delay soda-POP can.
HiTom Trigger out to AKS #1 (Hi Input Ch.2)
Headphone out to AKS #2 (Hi Input Ch.2)
Main output to AKS #1 (Hi Input Ch.1)
Steiner-Crumar Masters Touch breath controlled resonant analog filter and CV controller puts out voltage from breath, bite and touch. Sooo much fun had the Breath Transducer going out to AKS #2 (Hi Input Ch.1).Only stinky breath is used in this vid!!! No bite or touch.
AKS #2s Signal Output goes into the wet and juicy Crumar filter.
Re-creating the Roland TR909 for iPad
nineOnine is intended to emulate not only the sound of the classic TR-909, but also the logic of programming and saving rhythm patterns.”The TR-909 is an awesome analog drum machine! THE standard House and Techno beatbox. Sounds include kick, snare, hand clap, open and closed hi hats, low mid and hi toms, rim shot, ride and crash cymbals. Sounds are tweakable – attack, tone, tuning, decay, snap and accent. This machine does not sound like true acoustic drums, and we don’t want it to. It has a unique and very loveable analog sound that’s all its own!” And now it is here for the iPad:
Features:
- 16 step drum sequencer
- 10 user defined presets
- 9 drum instruments
- 8 drum patterns (4 x 2 banks)
- 4 preset tracks
- Knob zoom for easier handling
- Effects rack (Reverb, Delay, BitCrush and Pan)
- Record and export loops in 16bit/44.1kHz stereo WAV format
However, nineOnine needs some additional features in order to become a no-brainer. MIDI features are missing in action and “Track Play is preset and can not be user defined.”
Developer Mirko Trkulja promises some significant enhancements with the next update, though, including:
- Knob automation
- Wi-Fi MIDI sync
- Full sound synthesis
- Step or Tap pattern write mode
- More patterns and presets
- User defined Track Play

House on the Roland TR707
The TR-707 is a great source for cheap 909 samples. It has some other cool features too such as its Matrix display which clearly maps out your pattern for you in an easy to read display panel. It also features both MIDI in/out and DIN sync control – the best of both worlds. Why this unit even has individual outputs for each of its drum tones! For programming, it features a shuffle and flam effect and its programming abilities are very impressive. But it does have its limitations, the only adjustment you can make to each drum tone is volume.
In this video:
This time, tributing early house tracks of 1986-1987 era, based on the Roland TR707 drummachine.. As always, all tracks selected and recreated by ear. None of the original tracks were sampled.
All TR-707 & additional TR-727 and TR-808 beats were rebuilt on a Korg Electribe SX sampler (no stock sounds). Basses and some synth parts were loosely remade with my analog synths (see below).
Tracklist:
Rick Astley – Never gonna give you up (707, 727)
Michael McDonald – Sweet Freedom (707, 727)
Taylor Dayne – Tell it to my Heart (house mix) (707, 808)
Mr Fingers (Larry Heard) – Washing Machine
Rick & Lisa – When you gonna (707, 808)
Jungle Wonz – The Jungle
Wired – To the Beat of the Drum (707, 808)
Marshall Jefferson – Move your Body
Phuture – Your only Friend
Joe Smooth – Promised Land (707, 727)
Similar beats are for sale @ www.zenhiser.com/1980 series.
Synthesizers used:

Rob Papen’s brand new speaker busting, body rattling software instrument
Demo of Rob Papen Punch virtual drum machine. With Punch, Rob Papen delivers a brand new speaker busting, body rattling software instrument. Punch delivers synthesized drums in the finest audio quality and with breathtaking features for the contemporary producer.
You can can use synthesis and the build in samples to build your own unique sounding drum-kit, but also your own samples can be loaded into Punch to complete your kit. Your sounds can then be crafted using the stunning features, filters and huge synth power we all know from other RP synthesizers. Punch has a unique sound but also built in sequencers, allowing you the user to have multiple patterns at your finger tips. These grooves can be triggered in a live environment to build a song, but are also great for just improvisation and jamming!
Also featured are drum-kits built by famous DJ’s which complete the arsenal of power that is Punch…
