Spook Keys is a free theremin VST for Windows, designed to re-create the typical sound of a theremin.
It supports control either using a MIDI keyboard or using the mouse to drag a glowing spot across the ‘chart’ for a “virtual theremin” playing style.

Making bitcrushing effects
This episode shows how to create a bitcrushing effect using a Sample and Hold module of a modular synthesizer. By clocking the sampling with a VCO you get into audio frequencies. Results with vary a little depending on your sample and hold module but hey -it’s analog!
Moogfest line up revealed
Moogfest organizers have announced the core schedule of shows for the 2010 event, being held October 29-31 in Asheville, North Carolina.
This includes performances being held at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, Asheville Civic Center and The Orange Peel.
They’ve also announced new additions to the festival:
As if we hadn’t given you enough Halloween treats, we’re still adding artists into the moogfest mix. Our most recent lineup additions include Javelin, Alex B, Nosaj Thing, Dark Party, Headtronics (Bernie Worrell, Freekbass & Adam Deitch), Shout Out Out Out Out, Volt Per Octaves featuring special guest Bernie Worrell and Projek Moog with special guest Brian Kehew! But we’re not done yet – a handful of additional artists will be joining the lineup in the coming weeks, plus we’ll be releasing information about late night shows and special events in clubs and other venues throughout Asheville. Information regarding moogfest 2010’s workshops, panel discussions, art exhibitions, installations and film screenings, will be announced in the coming weeks as well.

Anaglyph sides of Jon Hopkins

BISON: “We’d been looking into an old 3D technique called “Anaglyph”, which is the familiar red and cyan version of 3d that you used to get on the back of cereal boxes. The more we looked at various images that used this technique, the more we fell in love with the colours and decided that they should drive the aesthetic of the piece. In particular, we were intrigued as to what might happen if the two images were from drastically different sources.
“The song is full of light and shade; with euphoric melodies and skipping glitchy beats. It seemed to us that themes of ‘duality’ ran through both the song and our visual idea.
“We took those themes to our stylist, Justine Josephs who, along with our make-up artist Sally Marshall, created two opposing looks for our dancer, Claire Meehan. We spent a single day shooting in a South East London studio with Chris Nunn behind the camera and lights.
“Finally came the edit and post-production process: We locked ourselves in the studio for 2 weeks working with After Effects.
The process was pretty organic; we spent a week or so playing with the footage, developing different ideas and techniques, and then spent a further week moulding the disparate pieces into a solid video that ebbed and flowed in the right places.”

Here’s the next installment to my let-me-find-a-good-use-for-ethnic-instruments-in-my-studio project: an authentic cowhide bongo made in the mountain province of Benguet, Philippines. I bought it on the day of my college graduation so it’s really special to me. Tap with care.If you’ve ever had a cowhide bongo you would know that they don’t have much resonance like the conga, instead they’re very natural-sounding, more earthy. It’s great for world and ethnic music styles. So if you’re making the soundtrack for the next Pocahontas sequel, maybe this can come handy.
NR2010, a free virtual synthesizer instrument plug-in
GTG Synths has announced the release of NR2010, a free virtual synthesizer instrument plug-in for Windows.
Made mainly for personal use. A good old analog polysynth with a 24dB filter, snappy envelopes and nice mod effects. My personal workhorse-synth free for all soon.
NR2010 is available to download as a freeware VST instrument for Windows PC.
GTG Synths has also announced it will stop the development of the GTG Synths series.
It has been big fun developing VST Synths for the music fraternity. I am pleased to have been able to provide a fair share of user satisfaction and credibility on both custom synths and serial synths despite having not fully met all ”emulation” requirements.Thanks a lot for the inspiration , support and encouragement!

Nice wooden knobs on the Pocket Piano
