The malaventura’s audiovisual sampler consist in a complex set up of software & hardware where throught a midi controller its possible to launch audiovisual material in the same manner like a music sampler launch audio clips. This peculiarity make possible to build, in live action, a collage of pieces made of images and sounds perfectly synchronized. These pieces are rearranged, manipulating its natural position on the original source to create new images and rhythms, recontexting the old footage in a new puzzle where the forgotten scenes from public domains movies comes alive again like an audiovisual frankenstein.

The sense of hearing

September 11, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on The sense of hearing

There are some fundamental principles regarding the construction of an acoustically healthy society, one where we can exist within the sounds of life. Respect towards voice and words, sonic awareness, the awakening of the sense of hearing. To preserve the sounds that tend to fade out, while remaining open to the sounds that spring out of each technological stride. To build an aural idiom that interprets its own symbolism. To accept the silence, enforcing it in the due moments. And, above all else, to listen.

The latest updates in AudioMulch, the cult-hit Windows-only app that’s grown up and now runs on both Mac and Windows. 2.1 adds dynamics processing devices, support for Mac Audio Unit plug-ins, an optional light grey color scheme (for those who missed the earlier skin), and updated help. Why use AudioMulch? This modular patching environment is packed with a carefully-selected array of useful objects, called “contraptions,” which make it relatively easy to patch together custom performance and production creations without the usual mucking around with low-level objects.

Audio issues at Victoria's secret

This article dives into the issues when cameras and audio equipment needs to play well together, Not just beautiful ladies I guess :-)

With hostess Heidi Klum leading a glittering parade of supermodels down the runway inside New York’s Lexington Avenue Armory, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show certainly revealed a sumptuous feast for the eyes. The mid-November videotaping for CBS was also a party for the ears, with a pulsating soundtrack mixed by renowned DJ Jeremy Healy and live performances by the Black Eyed Peas all potently reproduced by a camera-friendly phalanx of 128 Meyer Sound loudspeakers.

For sound designer Erich Bechtel of ADI:Audible Difference Inc., now in his tenth year working the annual spectacle, the assignment was clear-cut. “The production company wanted the system to steer clear of all camera sightlines and yet still sound good and loud,” says Bechtel.

It was a task more easily stated than accomplished. To stay out of camera shots, minimum array trim height was set at 47 feet. Subwoofers could not be hung due to weight restrictions, and the deep-thrust V-shaped stage split the audience into opposing sections. Finally, the armory’s vast size (about 180 by 190 feet) with high ceilings generated distressingly long reverberation times.

Room correction system for ProTools

August 18, 2009 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on Room correction system for ProTools

IK Multimedia has announced the release of ARC System TDM, an advanced room correction system for Pro Tools|HD Accel.

IK Multimedia ARC System TDM

The ARC System is the first (and only) acoustic room correction plug-in, and delivers the most advanced solution to acoustical problems for any Digidesign® Pro Tools® TDM-based studio. Combining a professional calibrated measurement microphone, standalone software that captures sound information and calculates proper room correction, and a multi-platform plug-in, this technology will improve how your studio sounds forever.

ARC features the revolutionary Audyssey MultEQ® technology, which measures acoustical information throughout the listening area in your studio. It then combines this information to provide an accurate representation of the room’s acoustical problems. The equalization solution then corrects for both time and frequency response problems more effectively and efficiently than any other room correction EQ on the market. The result is a clear and reliable representation of your mix. Regardless of the acoustical issues in your studio, what you are recording, mixing or mastering becomes immediately clear and reliable and your studio sound will improve forever.

The audible results will be:

  • Low-end alterations, typically added by small rooms, are removed with better low frequency control
  • More consistent frequency response across the entire range
  • Tonal balance is restored, allowing for more accurate mixes
And the following advantages will be achieved:
  • Room defects will no longer capture your attention, allowing you to focus solely on the music and reducing your ears fatigue
  • Work on mixes faster because you’re sure of what you’re hearing
  • Achieve greater consistency on your music productions
  • Produce mixes that better translate to the outside world

ARC System is also the most convenient, unique, mobile correction solution for the Pro Tools traveling engineer.  Now you can sonically ‘treat’ your room everywhere you go, so you can finally trust the sound of your monitoring environment and record, mix or master comfortably in a listening environment that you will always be familiar with.

Introducing the robosynth wind controller

July 15, 2009 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on Introducing the robosynth wind controller

A really nice twist on electronic music evolution :-)

http://robosynth.blogspot.com/
See the site for more. The following is just a snip on the Mark II Wind Controller. You’ll find samples on site.

“The circuit boards are housed in a wooden case made from cherry and walnut with some decorative inlays on the bottom part. The main body of the case was assembled as an octagonal assembly, but was rounded on the outside for that traditional instrument look and shape. There are three circuit board assemblies, the main board that has the processor and other active circuitry, an upper switch assembly for the fingering buttons, and a lower switch and LED assembly. The lower assembly connects to the main board before being inserted into the case. The upper switch assembly is also inserted into the case and connects to the bottom half sandwich with a small ribbon cable.”
