Teaser for the new VST/AU/RTAS Effect from Plogue
Plogue is proud to present a little teaser on our secret project, an “Early Sampling Circuit Simulator”, which runs as a VST/AU/RTAS Effect.
It contains resamplers, filters, speaker impulses and other fined tuned algorithms to emulate the full signal path of well known early sampling devices, like for instance an SK-1 or the Amiga Paula, from the required analog to digital conversion (far from mere ‘bit crushing’), up until the end speaker.
The same mindset that brought chipsounds to life, the acquisition, care and research is all in there. Everything that could NOT fit in chipsounds since it dealt with streamed samples is in here.
As with the NAMM2009 announcement of chipsounds, there is more to it than this, and we will keep some details, including the name and UI secret, until its ready to ship!

Vladislav Goncharov’s Molot is a freeware compressor VST for Windows (both 32-bit and 64-bit) that features an GUI modeled on vintage Soviet audio equipment.

Two new audio effect plugins
Two Notes Audio Engineering has announced the Torpedo PI-101 and Torpedo PI-FREE, two new audio effect plugins.
The Torpedo PI-101 and PI-FREE plug-ins feature the unique Torpedo algorithm originally found on the VB-101 and VM-202 units, that allows the user to virtually move the microphone in front of the speaker cabinet (as you would in a real recording room) and to simulate the sound of a hard driven speaker.
Torpedo PI-101 is a hi end channel strip plug-in for your guitar amp / preamp. It features three different sections: power amp with 8 different power amp topologies, “Miking” with more than 30 cabs and 8 studio-standard microphones and last but not least, Post FX featuring Low cut filter, 5-band EQ, exciter and compressor.
Torpedo PI-FREE is based on the flagship model, the PI-101, but only features 1 model of power amp simulation (EL34 / AB class), 1 speaker cab (based on a Marshall 4×12) and 1 type of microphone (based on a Shure SM57). And you still have the full Post FX section.
Torpedo PI-101 will be available to purchase for 199 EUR excl. VAT early February, 2011 (requires iLok USB key to authorize). Torpedo PI-FREE is free to use, is not time limited and does not need an iLok USB key.

Eventide Space – Sneak Peak
Here’s a nice one for you. Sneak peak of the new Eventide “Space” Reverb stompbox. Running a Roland TR-808 and TB-303 through some of spatial effects including basic reverbs, delays and unique combination effects.
“Reverb” seems a bit too vanilla to describe a box from Eventide. Regarded as one of the best hardware effects processors ever, Eventide’s brilliant sounds have sadly been out of reach to most musicians. Togu Audio Line has released TAL-Reverb 3, a free reverb effect for Mac & Windows.
TAL-Reverb-III is an easy to use stereo plate plugin. Its the replacement for TAL-Reverb-II and has several improvements as an optimized GUI and some changes in the algorithm. It has a simpified EQ section, a meter display and shows actual slider values.

All you need to know about BitSpeek
Sonic Charge Bitspeek is a real-time pitch-excited linear prediction codec effect. Right now you are probably thinking, “oh, another one of those”? Or perhaps not. Chances are that you have never heard about “linear prediction”, although most of us use it daily when we talk on our cell phones. Linear prediction coding is a voice compression technology that appeared in commercial products in the seventies and was implemented in some well-known speaking toys of the early eighties.
We have applied this technology to create a VST / AU effect plug-in that analyzes audio, extracts a number of parameters (including pitch, volume and formant data) and then resynthesizes the audio using a simple oscillator, noise and filter architecture.
We have added a number of playback parameters that adjusts the pitch and tonal quality of the sound as well as support for MIDI and a beat-synchronized “formant freezing effect”. Despite having only a few simple controls, this box can produce a broad range of sounds from cheap speaking toys to high-end vocoder and talkbox effects.”

Freeware bus compressor effect plug-in for Windows
Platinumears has released version 2 of FL4TT3RY, a freeware bus compressor effect plug-in for Windows.
This is a gentle squashy compressor intended for use on busses, though it also works well on channels. It has a very soft knee, with a ratio that gradually increases to hard limiting, and a choice between RMS based level detection (with a window size that depends on the attack time) or a brand new peak sensing algorithm.
This unit is inspired by a particular bit of hardware that I know quite well. Its not “modelled” however: I came up with the algorithm first, thought it sounded similar, so then skinned the plug to resemble the hardware. It is definitely not a proper model, so I’m not going to name the unit in question.
Changes in FL4TT3RY 2
- Slightly gentler transfer curve brings it (subjectively) closer to the hardware that inspired it.
- Tweaked attack smoothing to make it a little more aggressive with the fastest settings.
- Tweaked release smoothing to make it pump less with the fastest settings.
- New peak sensing mode.
- External sidechain inputs.
- Left click the meter to toggle the range between 6, 12 or 18dB.
- Right click the meter to switch between Gain Reduction metering, or Gain change metering (which includes make-up gain).
